The Catcher with the Lines Artist Statement This exhibition is a collection of precious moments I’ve gathered during my 3 years of life as a traveler in Taiwan. Like “The Catcher in the Rye”, I catch my subjects' personality using my skill of line work to keep them from fading from existence. To ensure my subjects' true spirit comes through on canvas is my top priority. Sometimes, I choose to hide myself in the background to capture the true essence of those who are potentially shy, like passengers on the subway, a vendor selling pancakes, street cleaners, foreign fishermen knitting nets. For those who love to be in the spotlight - life models, music performers, dancers, and street artists - I choose to sit up front to get a close-up view of their micro movements that reveal something idiosyncratic about the person. Blind contour drawing and drawing from memory are the techniques I use to capture moving gestures. Architecture also captivates me and comes alive around me as I create art. To do this, I explore places from different perspectives and take in the environment using my senses: sniffing the smells, listening to the voices coming through windows, and touching the old trees living about. I breathe life into buildings as my observations and imagination guide my hand.Often times, when I’m drawing on location, I make a thumbnail design at the corner of my paper. To get colors in, I choose to use watercolor, pastels, or color pencils without pencil sketches. These capture the vitality of colors that I see and the vibrations of the atmosphere happening in the moment. by @latestqq

To my English speaking FB friends, can I ask you this favor? Very honored, I entered the first round of this art competition and I need your support with a like. Could you click on the link in the bio and then scroll down to B057 to give my work a like please? The likes counts as 30% of the final score. Surely appreciate your sharing. Thanks for the effort 🥰🙏💖🫡😁 Of course, you can also explore other excellent works and give your likes just as I did. 🥰👍 An intro to the work: it's a painting depicting an old famous building in Taipei with a long history of different uses mainly military or political in the modern time, now used as a catering place mainly for weddings. I used rich dimensions to reveal the richness in the design and history of its usage. by @latestqq
