Hey there! If you're new here, welcome to Launceston Central 👋

We are an independent not-for-profit promotional agency striving to bring vibrancy to Launceston CBD, working with local businesses to showcase the best our city has to offer. We love Launnie and want to see it thrive!

Our organisation has been around for over 30 years. You may have known us as Cityprom, from events such as NORTH Festival and Slice-a-licious, or from projects such as The Lounge and Love Launnie.

We're a small team but we run a big website - did you know that launcestoncentral.com.au hosts the only complete directory of all Launnie CBD businesses? Not only that, we've personally written descriptions for each of them. We’ve also done the hard work for you and gathered details of the best events happening in the heart of Launceston.

We are your guide to the city.

FAQ:
❓ Can you promote my event/business/service?
Depending on the location and details, yes! Get in touch with us here via message or email us at info@launcestoncentral.com.au and we'll see what we can do.

❓ Can my business/event be listed on your website?
Again, depending on the location and details, probably yes! If you're a business owner and have noticed you don't have a listing on our site or there is something amiss with your listing, please let us know.

❓ Does being promoted on your social media or listed on your website cost anything?
Nope! We do not charge for social posts or website listings.

❓ Are you a part of City of Launceston council?
We are an independent not-for-profit organisation engaged by the City of Launceston. We work closely with Council to make our city shine.

Something we haven’t covered here? Get in touch - we'd love to hear from you! taken in Launceston, Tasmania by @launcestoncentral

⛪ You might have noticed a warm red glow coming from the old art deco Gospel Hall on Elizabeth St. Venture inside and you'll now find @hanashibar - a brand new Tasmanian izakaya ⛩️

Never been to an izakaya? Think of it as Japan's answer to a laneway bar - a place for casual drinking and small, shareable plates that keep coming as long as you keep ordering, rather than one big meal on one big plate.

Hanashi blends the qualities of two distant, isolated islands: Tassie and Japan 🗾 Neon lights up traditional tonkotsu ramen, made with fresh Tasmanian ingredients 🍜 Shochu sours arrive infused with Tasmanian mountain pepper. Meiji-era woodblock paintings depict the opening of Allgoods in 1956. Even Launcestonian gets translated into Japanese. Consider this the first intercontinental miso ramen pipeline, from Tokyo to Launceston!

Tucked away inside you'll find a bowls of steaming ramen, a not-so-secret karaoke bar, and an extensive whisky menu 🍜🎤🥃

Hanashi takes the very essence of the izakaya, the liveliness, the randomness, the colour and the noise, and does something Japanese-Tasmanian with it. It brings it together with you, over a locally brewed rice lager and a good story.

They're now open six nights a week (closed Sunday) so head over for good food, bad karaoke, and more good times 🍻

Launnie, meet Lower Ground ☕️ Located within the atrium of The Arches building (across the road from Princes Square), they’re open weekdays and serving coffee, sandwiches, fresh Mediterranean salads, and pastries. If you’re craving a sweet treat, their signature chocolate chip cookie is a must-try 😋 The café features a large Tasmanian flora and fauna-themed mural by acclaimed local artist Kreamart, and the open, airy space is warm and inviting, with rounded brick walls and plenty of seating including tables hidden in cosy corners and on upper levels. Stay inside and linger, or grab your order to-go from their takeaway window to enjoy in the park.

For the culinary curious, our UNESCO City of Gastronomy is setting the table for a feast full of foodie events starting THIS week. Check out:

👧👦 @littlefoodfestival (14-15 Oct) is making its debut in Launceston on Wednesday. This is the first time the kid's food festival has gone on tour outside of Melbourne and we're so excited to welcome them to Civic Square 10am-4pm (Wed and Thu). Along with bringing culinary goddess Nigella Lawson to Launceston (tickets on sale now), they've invited a whole host of your favourite writers to the city to discuss everything from comedy and comedy to food writing and publishing.

👩‍🌾 @agriculturedtasmania ( 5-8 Nov) brings together farmers, producers, artists, makers, and everyday eaters to explore what we grow, how we grow it, and why it matters. Tickets are selling fast with a few remaining for a laneway dinner in Tatler Lane, "The Science Behind Your Plate" at @bluestonebarkitchen and "Salt Stories" an oyster tasting with local stories at @mudbarrestaurant. Interested in delving deeper into how power, policy, climate, and community shape what we eat? Join the conversation "food is political" at the Albert Hall on Friday 6 Nov.

🥂 Get tickets now for the 40th @festivaletas (29-31 Jan) and see headline acts like Jet, You am I, and the John Butler Trio. Saturday tickets and three-day passes sold out in a record time, so snag your Friday or Sunday tickets to this Tasmanian food and beverage showcase while you still can.

Come hang in Launceston's living room! 🛋️

A formerly unoccupied shopfront in the CBD has been transformed into a bustling community hub - this space is The Lounge, your inner-city home away from home 🏠

Treat it as you would a good friend’s place: let yourself relax and unwind, escape the cold, enjoy some good company, leave it as you found it, and leave feeling like your cup is a little fuller.

This oasis of warm, cosy goodness is open to everyone. You're welcome to sit and eat lunch, bring a board game you love, work on a crochet project or jam on the free-to-borrow musical instruments. ♟️🧶🎹

There are no prerequisites for entry, and no strings attached. Just come along with a smile.

Founded by Launceston Central in 2024 as a seasonal winter pop-up, it is now a permanent space run by Ghostlight Creative.

There's a constantly evolving program of events but favourites include Little Lounge Monday for the youngest loungers and Hump Day Karaoke for those who want to belt out a tune or two at lunchtime.

The Lounge isn't just for daytime hangs: they occasionally host evening events, too (follow their socials for details ➡️ @theloungelaunceston )

Want to contribute to this community initiative? Now that this project has evolved into a year-round community hub, the funding model invites members of the community to support its ongoing programming. If you'd like to contribute, please visit: https://gofund.me/7a1a754a1

Come rain or shine, if you're spending the day in Launnie, we have you covered. Literally! ☔🌧🌈🌦🌂

Tasmania can be four seasons in one day, no matter what time of the year. But a rainy day doesn't need to be a write off. Grab your favourite brolly and check out our guide: Where to spend a rainy day in Launceston (link in bio).

Get cosy sipping your way around the local café scene. Take refugee in arts and culture. Find the best spots to puddle jump and if you're with little ones, find indoor play areas that have a little something to keep mum and dad entertained too.

Launceston is made for adventure no matter the weather, so rug up, grab your Tassie Tuxedo and plan a gumboot adventure around Launnie.

💐 Sharon from International Flowers and Balloonland has been arranging flowers for the same Launceston families across generations of births, weddings, celebrations, and funerals. She's been in the lives of locals for 47 years! 💐

Sharon genuinely loves having real conversations with customers over the counter. She prioritises personalised touches and in-person services stating its "the way it should be". She recalls as a small child passing Hinton Lloyd's floristry, "his shop used to smell beautiful. That's what got me interested in flowers."

Sharon's seen a lot of shops come and go but she's remained cemented here in the Launceston community. “Everyone knows everyone, and if you treat people well and sell good flowers at a good price, they come back. If you don't, they won't.”

Stop by her convenient drop-in location outside the Morty's complex. 📍 29a Wellington St
