This marks one of the most significant projects in our studio’s history. The recent opening of the Central Concourse Expansion at @flysea marks a major milestone for our region and an exciting new chapter for one of the Pacific Northwest’s most important gateways.Among the new destinations welcoming travelers from around the world is @nannysnwbbq , a Northwest BBQ joint inspired by family traditions, Filipino cultural influences, and the spirit of hospitality that defines our region. Drawing from generations of backyard cookouts, shared meals, and a deep appreciation for the diverse communities that make Seattle what it is, Nanny’s offers travelers an authentic taste of the Pacific Northwest through both food and experience. For us, this project represents far more than the design of a food and beverage concept. As a South Seattle-founded design studio, the opportunity to help bring a locally owned concept to life within an international airport is both humbling and deeply meaningful. To contribute to a space that will serve millions of travelers, including visitors arriving for the FIFA World Cup and beyond, is a reminder of the power of local stories, local businesses, and community-rooted design on a global stage.Projects of this scale are only possible through trust, collaboration, and the collective effort of an incredible team. We are grateful to Max Heigh & Aunty Leann, the @portofseattle , our entire consultant team, contractors, craftspeople, and project partners who helped transform this vision into reality. Thank you for allowing us to be part of this journey. We’re proud of what was built, but even more grateful for the people who made it possible.Client: @heighconnectsfood @nannysnwbbqOwner’s Rep: Falkin AssociatesDesign Architect: @launionstudio Architect of Record: @mancini_duffy Mechanical/Plumbing Engineer: HVAC Double CheckElectrical Engineer: EBD ServicesFire Protection Engineer: Bogard | PascuaStructural Engineer: @dciengineers Equipment Consultant: @bargreen_ellingson Signage: @nobleneonstudio General Contractor: @wilcoxconstructionPhotography: @projectremark #wheredesignmeetsculture #designxculture by @launionstudio

What does your story look like in space or building? For @ayalacoffee , it’s a story of growth, entrepreneurship, and galvanizing community around Filipino coffee.Every design decision, material choice, texture and corner of this café was shaped by narrative — a reflection of heritage and a celebration of what it means to create belonging through design. Spaces like these remind us that architecture isn’t just about what we build, but who we build for.As we close out Filipino American History Month, we honor the stories, culture, and contributions of Filipino Americans who continue to shape the fabric of our communities. Next time you’re visiting the NYC/NJ area, be sure to stop by and grab a bite and beverage at Ayala Coffee located in Union Township, NJ!Huge gratitude to our talented collaborator @mike.hom for helping tell OUR story, and to our clients @trixie_tangg & @mattrgram for spending your day off with us!#wheredesignmeetsculture #designxculture by @launionstudio

Three years. Six four-hour exams. Fifteen attempts & 5600+ hours of experience. Countless early mornings, late nights, and over a thousand hours of studying. I finally passed the grueling ARE’s to become a licensed Architect. This journey has been about so much more than six exams.I’ve never been a great standardized test taker. I’ve always learned best by doing. On job sites, in the studio, & solving real problems alongside clients, consultants, and contractors. That’s where I’ve always felt confident. What people don’t often talk about is how lonely the architecture licensure journey can be.The failed exams. The self-doubt. The shame and embarrassment that makes you stop telling people you’re testing because you don’t want to answer, “Did you pass?”I failed. A lot.As @launionstudio continued to grow, I battled imposter syndrome. We were designing meaningful projects, serving incredible clients, building profound spaces, yet a big part of me still questioned whether I truly belonged because I hadn’t crossed this finish line. Then, in the middle of it all, I lost my mom.She was there for every major milestone in my life, including my Pe’a (Malofie) journey. We always talked about the day I’d get to the other side of licensure. I truly believed she’d be here to celebrate this moment. There were days when grief made opening another study book feel impossible. But finishing these exams became about more than myself. It became a promise I wanted to keep. This one was always for you, Mom.To everyone in the ARE gauntlet, or thinking about starting, remember, your timeline is your own. One failed exam does not define our ability to become a great architect.Ask for help. Find your people. Build your community. Talk about the hard parts because they’re far more common than most of us admit. Keep showing up.One day you’ll realize these exams weren’t just testing what you knew. They were quietly building the resilience you’ll carry with you for the rest of your career.Ps. Congratulations to my brothers @simbabwean @se7en_eleven @germane.barnes @cbxvida_72 on their recent licensure too! Yall truly inspired me to keep going. by @launionstudio

Congratulations to our clients Teddi & Patrick for the grand opening of @nbhdwine ! Magnolia is delighted to have you. We had the honor to support them with concept development, space planning, and building permit procurement. It’s been fun seeing the evolution of their long time vision.Inspired by countless visits to cozy wine bars and small wineries around White Salmon, WA, where Teddi grew up, Patrick and Teddi set out to bring that same intimate, welcoming experience to Magnolia Village. The result is NBHD Wine & Market, a neighborhood wine bar and market designed for connection, discovery, and community. We’re grateful to play a role in your journey! If you’re in the Magnolia neighborhood, stop by and visit them for delicious local wines, home goods, sandwiches and more! by @launionstudio

Tucked into a quiet West Seattle neighborhood, this newly completed DADU was designed as a warm, welcoming retreat, filled with natural light, thoughtful details, and a sense of calm that makes every square foot feel intentional.Situated on a unique parcel with street frontage and alley access, this project presented an opportunity to thoughtfully maximize the property’s potential. As part of their relocation to Seattle, our clients saw the value in both renovating the existing single-family home and adding a detached accessory dwelling unit at the rear of the property. The result is a more functional, flexible property that adds much-needed housing while creating long-term value for the homeowners.Projects like this demonstrate how homeowners can thoughtfully increase density, unlock underutilized land, and create opportunities for rental income, multigenerational living, guest accommodations, or future flexibility, all while enhancing the character of their neighborhood. If you’ve ever wondered what might be possible on your property, we’d love to help you explore the opportunities. Whether you’re considering a DADU, ADU, home addition, or a broader property strategy, our team can help guide the process from vision through construction.🚧 @fmconstructionr 📸 @projectremark by @launionstudio

Meet La Union Studio (@launionstudio), a design studio with a mission to support businesses and celebrate culture through design. 🎨🌎As interior designers, founders Sonia-Lynn Abenojar and Sergio Max Legon-Talmoni know what it takes to turn an idea into a reality. After helping friends and family with several projects, they were inspired to start La Union Studio. A decade later, their dream has a home – a brick-and-mortar office in Mt. Baker, the neighborhood where they grew up.La Union is the first business to partner with our office and Grow America through the Business Community Ownership Fund. This program helps address small business displacement and rising commercial rents, allowing entrepreneurs like Sonia-Lynn and Sergio to own their space and build community. 💛🖤Discover how Sonia-Lynn and Sergio turned their vision into reality and created a lasting impact in their community: https://bottomline.seattle.gov/2026/05/27/la-union-uses-business-community-ownership-fund-to-build-community-with-their-commercial-space/ (link in bio)#BusinessCommunityOwnershipFund #LaUnion #AANHPI by @launionstudio

#repostLa Union Studio partnered with @thebeaconmm to refresh and reimagine their space - helping them expand beyond their evening dance class offerings.Together, we transformed portions of the studio into a welcoming daytime third place environment through the introduction of @freshh_cafe - Now open as a space for youth, neighbors, families, and creatives alike, to gather, work, recharge, and connect over smoothies, açaí bowls, and light bites. 🥤🍓Rooted in Seattle’s robust hip-hop culture, the @massive_monkees have long cultivated a safe and inclusive space for creative expression in South Seattle. If you’re in the Chinatown International District, stop by for some tasty treats! Huge gratitude to @seattleeconomy for supporting this project.📸@projectremark #wheredesigeetsculture #designxculture by @launionstudio

Something delicious is taking shape at @flysea ‘s Seattle–Tacoma International Airport… and no, it’s not just the smell of BBQ. 👀🔥Construction at Nanny’s BBQ inside the C-Concourse Expansion is moving fast, and the space is finally starting to show its personality. Over the past few weeks we’ve seen major milestones come together, signage courtesy of @nobleneonstudio installed, custom casework going in, lighting fixtures illuminating the space, and interior finishes starting to give the space some flavor. What was once a framed-out shell is now quickly transforming into a vibrant restaurant environment that will soon welcome travelers passing through SEA! Stay tuned for more progress! by @launionstudio
