A few more photos from the installation I co-created with @townergallery and this year's HAF programme participants. 💚 The project took place over 3 weeks in August on the theme of imagining a 'future archaeology' of Eastbourne. It is really joyful to look back over these photos and to see how the space transformed with the children's work. Thanks again to @mollieowls, @samsamayre, @annemariesrevolutions and the learning team @mehrins_page and @lahareem for all your support. And thanks to @cameronbrownphoto for the gorgeous images. 🙏 #art #artist #instaart #artofinstagram #haf #workshop #familyworkshop #communityworkshop #communityart #artinstallation #naturalmaterials #cyanotype #drawing #painting #willowwoodsculptures #treetunnel #discoverart #artandplay #evolving #installation #eastbourne #eastsussex #futurearcheaology #collaboration #collaborativepractice #explore #creativity #creativelearning #learningthroughplay #archive by @laura.ribbons

Back in August (how are we now in October?!?) I had the absolute pleasure of running @townergallery 's Summer HAF (Holiday Activities & Food) Programme. This year we were extra lucky to be able to access Towner's fabulous Heritage collection and share parts of it with the children. Over 3 weeks we created an ever evolving, chaotic, messy and joyful installation exploring Eastbourne through the lens of the landscape, sea and the town. It was a total team effort, special thanks to @mollieowls for being an incredible support (as ever) and Towner's incredible learning team including @mehrins_page and @lahareem and amazing supporting artists and HAF pros @annemariesrevolutions and @samsamayre 🙌🙌🙌....................................... I'm off for a few weeks. 👋 Taking a sketchbook or two. Ready for a holiday and a bit of a breather, but also excited to know that my studio will be waiting for me when I get back...

Fun experimenting with glazes on these mini ceramics pieces. I love how the terracotta sits alongside the deep blues.. 💙

Back in November last year, I hosted a panel discussion as part of my @aceagrams funded project @hastings_museum Plants Make Places. Entitled: Creating Change: A panel discussion on community, green space, and looking forward with hope, the discussion featured 3 incredible artist speakers @jcniala @rowancorkill @chrisillena - we covered topics from story telling to fishing, death and decay to allotments. I could have carried on talking to them forever! It was such a joyful experience. If any of that sounds like your bag, you can watch it now on YouTube (with closed captions) and you can see a record of the entire project on Hastings Museum's page. Links to both in my bio. DM if you have any trouble accessing these and let me know your thoughts in the comments below. 🙏 .....................................................................#art #artists #environmentalartist #discussion #paneldiscussion #artistpanel #hope #creatingchange #community #communityproject #instaart #greenspace #plants #environmentalart #climatechange #interconnectedness #artisttalk #freediscussion #YouTube #hastings #children #storytelling #environmentalart #climateart by @laura.ribbons

I've been experimenting with mono-prints recently and I'm particularly loving the effect of the mono-prints on fabric... Excited to see where it takes me.🌱 The pieces with writing are responses from children I worked with during my @acegrams community project Plants Make Places last year.

Workshop delivery day @goodwoodartfoundation . One of the outcomes of my @acegrams project Plants Make Places, was a ceramic jar into which I invited visitors to the exhibition to post their hopes and worries... It was sealed, so the only way to extract them was by breaking the piece... My plan is to make a little film of the process... I was touched by how vulnerable many of the notes were, but also how thoughtful and funny (see my favourite note at the end of the photo carousel!). This is only a tiny selection - I didn't want to share any that felt too personal on here... Many of the notes are written on wildflower seed paper, my plan is to plant them, so both worries and hopes grow into something beneficial and beautiful.... The rest I will compost, so they can nourish the plants 🌱 ............ #art #artist #communityproject #hastings #eastsussex #contemporaryart #instaart #artofinstagram #womxnartists #discoverart #artcollector #terracotta #ceramics #ceramicart #collaboration #plantart #fineart #plantsmakeplaces by @laura.ribbons

Incredibly it has been just over 2 months now since my @aceagrams project and exhibition Plants Make Places came to an end @hastings_museum ! I have spent a lot of that time reviewing and evaluating the outcomes of the project, some of which I hope to share with you in the coming days and weeks. I am excited for what comes next and for the opportunity to spend some time back in the studio playing and exploring new materials and processes... and perhaps most importantly reminding myself to resist leaping immediately into the next thing, there's nothing wrong with giving yourself a bit of space and taking a breath 🌱 .......For now, a little look back on the exhibition, thank you to everyone who came, to everyone who gave feedback and to all the people who were involved in this project and especially to everyone @hastings_museum - I will be endlessly grateful. 🌻 Photos by the wonderful @jorge_stride #art #artist #throwback #instaart #artofinstagram #environmentalart #womxnartists #discoverart #discoverartists #artcollector #plantlover #plantart #plantsmakeplaces #hastings #communityproject #artscouncilproject #painting #drawing #ceramics #collaboration #installation by @laura.ribbons

'An Alternative Portrait of Hastings', oak gall ink, turmeric, beetroot and embroidery on fabric, 2026. I haven't posted for ages, due to tiredness and technical difficulties (!!) but I wanted to share some photos of this work that I made with the children from year 1 and year 4 classes at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary school as part of @hastings.contemporary 's annual Pearls of the Sea project. The work takes inspiration from Michael Landy's series of drawings of the weeds he found when living in Rome.. so we made our own collective piece depicting the weeds of Hastings! The year 4s then helped to stitch the work together, each joining their drawing with the drawing of a year 1 child, echoing the connections made between plants, through root networks and chemical signals. You can see this work and others made by the amazing POTS schools and fellow artists at Hastings Contemporary until the end of May. 🌱 #art #artist #collaboration #pearlsofthesea #hastings #weeds #plants #botanicalinks #plantpaints #michaellandy #instaart #artofinstagram #communityart #communityproject #womxnartists #discoverart #sunnyday #embroidery #painting #drawing #hastings #eastsussex #connection by @laura.ribbons
