On the day this photo was taken, my sister and I were placed into the petting zoo pen with baby deer and, apparently, a momma deer. 70’s were wild, y’all. As I excitedly chased after Bambi, I did not see the large momma coming to tackle me in protection of her fawn. All I recall about that day is being knocked down and seeing a large deer rearing up and pawing at me. And then, my father, wrapping his arms around that large deer, lifting it up and tossing it to the side. He picked my tiny, crying ass up off the ground, held me tight and carried me to safety. I must have been about 2 or 3 years old, but I truly can still see my Daddy, my hero, rescuing me. And I can still feel that sense of safety knowing that he would always protect me. That sense of safety borne from his love and loyalty has stayed with me my entire life. My Dad was kind, funny, irreverent, intellectual, sweet and loyal always. My sister, brother and I were so fortunate to be raised by him and our children were so lucky to have him as their grandpa for as long as they did. Gone over 3 years now, but never, ever far from my heart and mind. So grateful. So, so grateful. Happy Father’s Day Daddy. You are loved and missed. by @lauracatalinajohnson

Where did my baby go?!?!? Alas, he is now a man, according to the US government. Lol. Happy 18th birthday to my sweet, baby Ryan. The boy with a million dollar smile, excellent taste in music, food, and skin care products 😂, a world traveler, kind and patient with everyone, dog whisperer, funny, curious and smart, helpful always, and a damn fine cook.
