It has taken me weeks to write this. My dad survived an earthquake that killed thousands in Guatemala. He almost lost his life after being in a coma for months after a motorcycle accident when he was 10. He escaped from a horribly toxic family situation. He walked through the desert and was smuggled into trailers traveling through Mexico to make it to the US at 14 years old with no family. He was supposed to end up on the east coast but stayed in California homeless for 10 months. Selling fruit on the side of highways. Then worked his way up in street jobs, construction, restaurants, car washes. Anything he could to send home money to his widow mom and brother so he could go to college. Later ended up meeting our mom in LA.
As a kid you don’t understand the level of sacrifice your parents go to give you a better life. I always knew these things but it was like something just clicked when my father passed a month ago. All of a sudden I understand that he did the best he could, coming from a broken family, living in scarcity for so long. My dad made an incredible life for himself. He learned English, followed the laws of the land. Purchased houses, land, trucks. His love language was to make sure we always had what we needed.
Most importantly he always made sure we had a relationship with God. My dad was not perfect, but he gave us the most important thing in this life, leading us to salvation in Jesus Christ. And for that I am so proud of my father! And to hear of all the ppl he made an impact on, because he was a giver, and always eager to help, bcause he knew what it was like to have nothing.
Through this I want to say, may you NEVER feel like your life doesn’t have a purpose. The probability of you being born is 1 IN 400 TRILLION. You have a higher calling! But it is up to you to respond. Thank you for all the love💖 we are happy that our dad finally made it 🎊
