“On the Rocks, Please” 42x60 tapestry linen 🤍 “Both serene and rugged, subtle and edgy, this collection celebrates the places we feel most alive. They all have a story to tell; you can sense the passing of time; there’s a certain ‘patina’ to them. Intentionally built, this layering represents the covetable, tangible, luscious layers of time that grace all things. The contemporary landscapes and abstract pieces were created on a base of vintage linens, cotton, and parchment. Layers of materials are stretched, ripped, and torn into place with edges intentionally left raw and a little wild telling a story of time. Distressed and etched upon, some of the pieces are designed to hang loose like a cherished, vintage tapestry.” #acertainlonging #raw #edgy #contemporaryart #absteactlandscape #art #exhibit #scandi #wabisabi #decor #modern #edgyart #elledecor #linen #whistler #abstract #landscape #indigo #painter #artist #studio by @lauraharrisstudio
“In the Mood for a Mighty Wander” - 60x48” ….feels good…..💙 Now in Whistler @adelecampbellfineart by @lauraharrisstudio
I’m absolutely thrilled and a little overcome. I’ve imagined this moment so many times, but I wasn’t quite prepared for how it would actually feel to hold the finished book… the weight of it in my hands. Fifteen years…. beautifully familiar faces, faraway places, paintings and delicious meals. So many people I love, woven through it all. “One day I’ll put them all in a book,” I kept saying. And now RETREAT is in my hands. Soon, I hope, in yours. Purchase link in profile. RETREAT will also be finding its way into local specialty shops and bookstores soon, with book signings and gatherings to come, just in time for Christmas. I’d love to see you there. Stay tuned for dates and details. ☺️ @lauraharrisretreats #artist #recipebook #lauraharrisretreats by @lauraharrisstudio
“Hours I wish I could keep” 30x40” @adelecampbellfineart I’m back in the studio working on some large pieces, but a few of the smaller ones keep pulling me back in, like this loose interpretation of water lilies on a pond. I just signed it so I guess it’s done. From a distance, it’s so soft and quiet, but up close, you’ll see the rough edges, scratches and gritty little bits I love so much. Feels good to be back at it. 💙 by @lauraharrisstudio

Our Sicily Retreat … what can I say? We came, we painted, we ate, explored and made a beautiful mess of things. It was wildly hot, full of colour, laughter, long tables and unforgettable meals. I’m so thankful for every person who brought their whole heart to this week, and for the extraordinary team and hosts Polina & Alessandro who made it all possible. Alla prossima! Until next time 😘💃🏻🥂 @viaggia.ca @reimeraa @traveldepartures Join us sometime - link in profile or: https://www.lauraharrisartist.com/retreats #lauraharrisretreat #lauraharrisretreats #retreats #art #travel by @lauraharrisstudio

A STUBBORN COMPANION - Many years ago, after my separation, a friend saw me for the first time in a while. She held me then stared into my eyes, and said one word. “Resilience.” I still remember it so clearly. Not because I agreed, but because I didn’t. Even though the ordeal was pretty amicable, I was just getting through. Putting one foot in front of the other. But she could see it clearly, long before I could. Resilience rarely feels like strength when you’re inside it. It doesn’t feel brave or admirable. Sometimes it feels like just getting by. I see it in my mom and dad these days, as they face the quiet realities that come with time. There’s a steadiness in them. A willingness to meet what’s in front of them, one day at a time. Love always in the lead. I marvel at it. I also recognize its place in the studio. The mix of emotions that arise when we’re making something can be surprisingly intense. Doubt, attachment, frustration, hope … all layered together, often within the same hour. Your whole heart is involved. There can be rejection or lack of recognition and it can feel deeply discouraging. Resilience isn’t about ignoring that feeling, it’s about continuing anyway, without letting those moments define you. Resilience also shows up in evolution. The willingness to outgrow your old style, to experiment, to risk making “bad” work in pursuit of something even better. I’ve been there many times over the past 26 years. Resilience is a stubborn companion (thank God). It’s there when nothing is coming easily, when things fall apart, when the painting resists you and every mark seems to make it worse instead of better, and it keeps you showing up the next day to do it all again … again and again. I would say, it’s also in knowing when to step away. When to leave it for a while. Rest. Reset. Trusting that you’ll see the work differently when you return. Maybe trust is at the core of it … an enduring trust in yourself that holds you from the inside out. Maybe. I do know for sure that it rarely feels present while you’re going through the hard stuff. But it’s there. It’s always there. ** thank you for being here. If this resonates, please share it. 🙏 by @lauraharrisstudio
I want it to feel like it’s already had a life before it ever lands on a wall. You know those beloved old tapestries? The ones that have been hung, moved, lived with for years. Edges softened, threads worn, with a quiet patina that only comes with time and touch. That’s what I’m after. #abstractlandscape #painting #vintagelinen #rawedges #loosecanvas by @lauraharrisstudio
