In 12 days, it will be exactly one year since I packed up everything I owned and boarded a train toward a completely unpredictable new life. A lot has happened since then. A lot is still happening. And through all of it, my girls kept telling me I should share the journey.

Well, Bri finally convinced me to do it. So I started a YouTube channel: NO RUN OF SHOW. In event production, a “run of show” is the detailed plan for everything that’s supposed to happen: when, where, who’s responsible, and what comes next.

Life gives us no such thing.

There’s no script for motherhood, careers, relationships, heartbreak, aging, loss, or starting over. We’re all producing our lives as we go. That’s what this channel is about: reinvention, relationships, parenting, personal growth, and changing your own script at any age. Plus some fashion, style, travel, and whatever else finds its way into my life’s unwritten run of show.

Right now, there are just a few style shorts on there, but the real talk is coming soon. My first long-form video will launch on October 30th, the one-year anniversary of rebooting my life.

If you’re one of my friends or family who’s been following along, I’d love for you to subscribe and join me over there. ❤️

NO RUN OF SHOW
Real life. No script. No timeline.

xx,
Laura

Signed a lease on an apartment! Move-in date: November 1st.

Is it big? Absolutely not. It is VERY small. Is it my dream apartment? Also no. But it’s a good starter place, it works for Bri and me right now, and most importantly, it’s within a budget that gives us room to work toward the goals we’ve set for ourselves over the next year.

Did I ever imagine I’d be starting over at my age, sharing a small apartment with my adult daughter, and figuring out how to create a space that works for both of us and the accommodations she needs? Nope. Is it always easy? Also nope. But am I happier now doing life my way? Absolutely!

My life looks nothing like I thought it would at this age. But here’s the truth: I’m okay with that.

I’m making choices for the life I actually want now, not the one I thought I was supposed to have. And I think that might be the best part of starting over.

xx,
Laura

I really do love that my girls think I’m the coolest, and I love how close we are. But with that closeness comes a LOT of very honest feedback.

They’ve both been pushing me to start a YouTube channel for a while now. They think I’d find an audience that would enjoy my little words of wisdom, the things I’ve been through, and what I’ve learned along the way and still learning.

Now for the honest-feedback portion of the program…

Bri told me last night that if I came across her feed, she’d keep scrolling if I kept using my “on-camera voice.”

Naturally, I asked why.

She said, “Because I know how you are in person, and I like your natural delivery better. You’re funny, joyful, caring and smart just being you.”

All together now: Awwwww.

And then she continued…

“Your on-camera voice sounds like those little kids trying to copy how influencers sound.”

HAHAHAHA. And there it is. 😂

That’s the beauty of Bri. She has never been one to sugarcoat anything. And the annoying part is, she’s almost always right.

The funny thing is, I always thought I was being myself on camera. Apparently there’s regular me and then there’s “Hello, everyone, welcome back to my channel” me, and I didn’t even know she existed. 😂

So I’m still thinking about that YouTube thing… but I guess I need a little more practice being myself!

If I’m not onsite for an event, pretty much anywhere can become my office.

Technically, I work from home. The only minor detail? I don’t actually have a home yet. Still apartment hunting in NYC, so for now, coffee shops, cafes, and whatever spot has Wi-Fi and caffeine are my rotating headquarters.

And in keeping in line with my newfound habit of turning everyday life into haikus, today’s “office”where I killed time and got caught up on production notes before event strike, inspired this one:

Laptop, lunch, latte
My office changes daily
Work from home-ish life

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the idea of romanticizing your life.

Not in a “pretend everything is perfect” kind of way. More in a “find the good in what you’ve been given” kind of way.

When it’s raining, you can be annoyed that your hair is getting wet, your shoes are soaked and the day doesn’t look the way you pictured it.

Or you can grab an umbrella and decide the rain is part of the story.

Careers are a lot like that.

Very few career paths are perfectly straight lines. We grow, take chances, change directions and sometimes end up somewhere completely different from where we thought we were headed.

And then one day, you look back and realize the pivot wasn’t the interruption.

It was the path.

Maybe romanticizing your life is simply refusing to believe that everything has to go perfectly for life to be good.

Find the lesson. Find the opportunity. Find the funny story you’ll tell later. Find the little things worth celebrating.

And when it rains?

Grab the umbrella.

You never know where the detour might take you.

I am learning that finding yourself involves a whole lot of letting go. Of people, places, plans, and versions of yourself you thought you were supposed to be.

Some versions of me had to go. Some simply ran their course. And some got me through things the current version of me no longer has to survive.

I don’t miss every version of me, but I’m grateful for every single one of her. She got me here.

And I’m pretty fond of who’s left. ❤️

One year ago today, this was me. Walking across a glacier and checking something truly extraordinary off my bucket list.

There was something deeply humbling about standing on ice formed over centuries, surrounded by a landscape that felt ancient, powerful and completely unfamiliar. Every step required attention. I could not predict exactly what was ahead, but that was part of what made it so exhilarating.

I had no idea then that the year ahead would include two major moves or that, exactly one year later, I would be living in New York City and fulfilling another lifelong dream.

In many ways, living here feels like walking onto that glacier. The landscape is new, the path is still revealing itself and I am learning where to place my feet as I go. But the excitement is the same. So is the feeling of being fully awake inside my own life.

Although I have worked in events for 15 years, I am now learning so many different sides of the industry that parts of my career feel completely new again. I am being challenged, stretched and introduced to work I did not know I would love this much. It is exciting to discover that experience does not mean there is nothing left to learn. I am incredibly grateful for that.

Life is short, but it is also long enough to surprise us, redirect us and give us more than one opportunity to become the person we imagined. We do not have to abandon the things we want simply because they have not happened yet.

Sometimes the dream is waiting for us to take the next step.

What is one thing still on your bucket list that you are ready to stop postponing?

Sometimes you have to stop, look around, and acknowledge when life is giving you a little confirmation that you made the right decision.

Feeling really grateful lately, so I wanted to share.

One week in New York and two events in the books. First event in Manhattan working a fashion and lifestyle activation, the next in the Hamptons for a private luxury brand event.

Two completely different clients, two completely different experiences, and exactly the kind of variety that makes me happy.

After two long days of collaborating, learning, running around and watching everything come together with a great team, it hit me… oh yeah. I chose right.

Sometimes the validation is already around you. You just have to notice it.

When you look around at your own life right now, does it feel like you’re in the right place? If not, I hope you find the courage to make the changes that might take you there.

“You’re moving AGAIN?”
“Why NYC? It’s so expensive!”
“NYC isn’t what it used to be.”
“What a change. Hope it works out for you.”
“Living in NYC sounds like a nightmare.”

I’ve heard it all. 😂

Here’s the thing: when someone is excited about their life, you don’t have to understand the decision to be happy for them.

No need to yuck someone else’s yum. 🗽✨
