POSTS STORIES REELS

My new book comes out next week, and I'm very excited to share it with you!

If you're interested in checking it out (or simply want me to be feline in your debt), please consider doing one of the following:

-Preordering it anywhere (your local bookstore, B&N, Amazon, Target, etc. — doesn't matter where!) 👉 Link in bio
-Requesting it at your local bookstore
-Requesting it at your library

Preorders are SO important to a book's success because they indicate demand, create buzz, and count toward a book's first week of sales, increasing the odds the book will be featured on lists.

Also, if you'd please tell a friend (or a cat) or share this post, that'd be wonderful. If you do read it, please consider leaving a review on Amazon, Goodreads, etc. — reviews are HUGE and can often determine how much promotion a book receives.

THANK YOU so much! (I'm not kitten you — I'm grateful for your support even if you just like this post. 😻) #IndoorCat by @laurajmoss

Today I had to reunite a litter of dispersed kittens with their frantic, perfectly healthy mom. Why? Because people made a lot of assumptions that endangered the babies’ lives.

So you found kittens? How cute! Leave them alone. Even if mom isn’t there. Seriously.

Mom is the kittens’ best caregiver, so wait a few hours and see if she returns. She probably will.

Mom didn’t come back? If the kittens are under 8 weeks old (Google “kitten age chart”), now you can intervene.

These babies will need round-the-clock care though. Are you experienced with neonatal kitten care? Are you up for learning? If so, find resources. @kittenxlady has tons.

Not up for it? Find someone who is. Call local shelters and rescue orgs and ask if they take bottle babies. Please don’t just drop these little ones off anywhere — they need specialized care and not every shelter provides that. The kittens may be killed.

Are the kittens over 8 weeks and weaned? Awesome. You don’t have to feed them at 3am!

Are they friendly? If so, it’s time for vet care, spay/neuter and forever homes.

Not so friendly? It’s TNR time, baby!

DO NOT:
Separate kittens from mom
Feed them anything other than kitten formula
Feed them on their backs

**There are many more “don’ts,” but these are the big mistakes I see A LOT.

Don’t know what to do? Find out. Or find someone who does know what to do. Lives depend on it. 😻

Exactly four years ago today we sat in these exact seats for our first date. Now we sit on the same sofa every night. Happy four years, @trmikeward! ❤️ by @laurajmoss

Happy 7th birthday to this purrfect boy who was abandoned under a house in Georgia and now lives a spoiled life as a London lad. #screamingtravis
(Don’t worry — he didn’t eat from the can.)
Thanks for all your Travis love and support, @atlcatlady, @zoesfosters, @thenatstudio!

Visité a mi hermano en Barcelona y bebí mucho vino. 🍷

Es un estilo de vida, papi! @trmikeward

Yes, that pigeon is drinking Gaudí water. Yes, it absolutely delighted me.

Proof that I did, in fact, do some things in the second half of last year other than become intimately familiar with NHS hospitals. by @laurajmoss

Today I walked about half of my normal route around the local park. Last week I was proud of myself just for walking TO the park. 🌳

About a month ago I had a routine, no-big-deal procedure. Days later, I was admitted to the hospital where I began a journey of IVs, scans and antibiotics. Twice I was awoken at midnight because “the microbiologists want to try you on this now.” I was always hooked up to something, and the pain + morphine + fever + sleep deprivation led to some interesting texts to friends and family, as well as one incident where I frightened myself with my own hand.

I don’t think I realized how sick I was until the doctors started throwing around the word “sepsis” and my father booked a next-day flight to London. (Thank you, Dad.) Soon I was alarming an anesthesiologist by getting my own DOB wrong and then I was having emergency surgery. I remember being wheeled back into the room I shared with six other people, seeing Mike and my dad, and texting several of y’all complete nonsense that you’ve since rightly mocked me for.

I didn’t see much of the outside world for well over a week. One of the only photos I took was of my first blood transfusion. (Don’t swipe if you don’t want to see a lovely stranger’s blood entering my arm. Also, thank you to everyone who gives blood!)🩸🥰

I’ve been recovering at home for weeks now and am grateful that my world is expanding again, and I’m truly overwhelmed by the kindness and support I’ve received.

Being hospitalized so far away from people and processes that I know and understand was really hard. But receiving the incredible healthcare that I did from NHS nurses, doctors, and midnight microbiologists 🦇 — and being discharged from a lengthy hospital stay not crippled with medical debt — feels like a fantasy. I’m currently unemployed and uninsured, so I would’ve left a U.S. hospital burdened with much more than just pain and enough antibiotics to start my own pharmacy. I certainly wouldn’t have the privilege and luxury of measuring my recovery in park walks.

Healthcare is a right. And while I know the #NHS isn’t perfect, I’ve gotta say that I’m a fan. ❤️ #thankyou by @laurajmoss

Finally sharing some #Bangkok. Maybe this London heat reminded me. 😆🥵

I didn’t have a passport until I was 21.

I didn’t know how to check a bag or what turbulence felt like or how to navigate public transportation. I didn’t even know how to use a key fob (Thank you to the kind young woman who demonstrated how to do this so I could have dinner in the dorm on my first night in Newcastle).

On nights when my dorm mates and I went into town for drinks and someone asked, “How are you going, Laura?” I proudly replied with, “The bus and then the train!” because I’d figured out how to use those by then and had no idea that was actually an inquiry into my well-being.

Nearly 20 years later I finally got to return to Australia. I no longer have a Discman or a film camera or an actual physical map, but the country is just as lovely and friendly as before. 🐨 🦘🇦🇺 🍻
