You can have the full diary, growing revenue and a busy team…

And still feel like the business isn’t giving you what you thought it would.

I think it’s time we looked at success differently.

And I’d genuinely love to know:

What does “success” mean to you as a salon owner?

And has your definition of success changed since you first opened? by @laurajohagan

For a long time, salon success has been measured by what we can see.

A full column.
A growing team.
Increasing revenue.
A busy salon.

And those things matter.

But they don’t tell the whole story.

Because there’s another side of success that isn’t always visible from the outside.

What the owner takes home.
What the business actually keeps.
How much cash is sitting there when something unexpected happens.
Whether the numbers are understood and used to make decisions.
And whether the business is strong enough to sustain what it’s built.

That’s why I created The Salon In Control Standard™.

It’s a broader definition of salon success.

Not replacing Busy + Revenue + Growth.

Adding to it.

Because I don’t think the answer is to build a bigger salon just for the sake of being bigger.

I think success should be measured by the strength of the business you’ve built and the reward, security and control that comes with it.

This is the standard behind Salon In Control, I can’t wait to share more with you. by @laurajohagan

The turnover says the salon is doing well.

The bank account on a Monday morning says something else.

I see that gap over and over.

Good revenue, full columns, a team you’re proud of. And once wages, rent and bills are out, you find yourself wondering what is actually coming to you.

You’re not bad at business.

It’s because turnover was never the only measure.

On Monday 26 October I’m revealing the seven Standards that focus on the entire business. It’s called The New Standard for Salon Success.

You can see where you sit against these standards and why your business isn’t feeling in control.

The salon owners I work with who are most in control of their money don’t all look the same. Some have a team of seven. Some work on their own.

Turnover was never the thing they had in common.

What they share is how they measure whether the salon is actually working. On 26 October I’m revealing exactly what that measure is, live.

It’s quarterly BAS time, and for a lot of salon owners, the money’s not there 😬

Not because of anything silly.

The GST from every service got mixed in with everything else, so it disappeared while you paid wages, the stock order and the rent. By the time BAS arrives, it’s gone.

More than half the salon owners who’ve come to me had tax debt or a payment plan. Most of them had busy, well-loved salons. It’s rarely about how busy you are. It’s that the tax money was never kept apart from the money that runs the business.

Tax is one of the seven Standards I’m revealing in my free live masterclass on Monday 26 October, two days before BAS is due.

Your salon looks successful.
But is it giving you what you opened it for?

That’s the question at the heart of my upcoming masterclass, The New Standard for Salon Success.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

✓ The seven Standards behind a salon that truly rewards its owner
✓ Why a busy, growing salon can still fall short of them
✓ How to see which Standards your salon is already meeting, and where to focus next

If you join live, you’ll also leave with the Christmas Cash Plan, a simple way to work out exactly what to set aside each week so January doesn’t catch you out.

This one question completely changed my business.

“If you had to define a financially successful salon, how would you?”

And I realised nobody in our industry had ever answered it.

We have plenty of ways to say a salon looks successful. Fully booked. A great team. A gorgeous fit out. Growing every year.

But none of those tell you whether your salon is actually giving back to the person who built it.

So I answered it.

After working with 100+ salon owners, I could see what matters most for a salon to reward the owner and feel in control. It wasn’t how busy they were. It was what their salon gave back to them.

That became seven Standards. My answer to that question.

On Monday 26 October at 10am (Qld time), I’m revealing all seven for the first time in a free live masterclass: The New Standard for Salon Success.

You’ll see what each Standard looks like in a real salon, and you’ll walk away knowing which ones yours is already meeting and what to focus on next.

Your best weeks of the year are coming. Will they actually leave you better off?

More cash comes through your salon in October, November and December than any other time of the year. But without a plan for it, it gets swallowed by wages, stock and the bills that land just as the salon goes quiet in January.

That’s how so many owners finish their best stretch of the year and start January behind. Again.

It doesn’t have to go that way. You just need to know what to fix first, and it needs to be done before December, not after.

If you’re tired of starting every January wondering where it all went, send me a DM with the word DECEMBER. Let’s make this the year it’s actually different. by @laurajohagan

It’s not personal. Okay, it’s a little bit personal.

Because I keep talking to salon owners with full columns, a great team and loyal clients who still check their bank account before they’ve had their coffee.

Rent. Paid. Team. Paid. Product. Paid.
ATO. 😬 Still working out how that one’s getting paid.
You? 🤷‍♀️

Somewhere along the way, that became normal. Profit became the exception. Something that only happens in a good month, if you’re lucky.

I want an industry where profit is the standard. Where your salon doesn’t just keep you busy, it pays you? Profits, build security and lets you sleep at night.

That’s the mission. 1500 salon owned by 2036. Not just making more money. Keeping more of it.

It’s why I’ve spent months rebuilding how I support salon owners and defining a new standard for what success in this industry actually looks like.

Next week something is coming 👀

Our first client is in Salon In Control™️ 🎉

So I wanted to share a little bit behind the scenes of what I’ve been developing and what happens first when a new salon owner joins.

Let me know, which level is your salon currently at? by @laurajohagan

The first three get you compliments. The second three get you paid.

The full columns, the busy team, the great reputation. That part’s done and it wasn’t luck. You built it.

But a salon can tick every box people can see and still have the owner checking the bank account the night before payroll, hoping it stretches.

Getting the second three isn’t about working harder or getting busier. It’s about knowing what to fix first. Most salon owners either try to fix everything at once or it all feels like too much and gets parked for later.

Comment FIRST and I’ll tell you what I’d fix first in your salon. by @laurajohagan

Running a small business right now is hard.

Acknowledging that doesn’t mean we’re making excuses.

And looking at what we can do from doesn’t mean we’re pretending the external pressures don’t exist.

Both things can be true.

You can advocate for small business, question decisions that make it harder and be frustrated by the increasing cost of doing business.

AND you can keep strengthening what’s happening inside your own business.

Not from a place of blame.

From a place of “what can I do something about?”

My numbers.
My strategy.
My thinking.
My decisions.
My pricing.
My cashflow.
My profit.
My salons performance.

The tougher the environment becomes, the more important financial strength becomes.

We can’t control everything happening around our business.

But we can continue to refine and manage what happens inside of them.

Right now, we need both conversations. by @laurajohagan
