At 5:23 pm on November 13, I officially joined the very coveted Grandma club. Our grandson was 6 pounds 15 ounces and 20.07 inches long. His name is Layne Matthew Robert Leblanc, and even though I havent met him in person yet, I am already in love with him. It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update! Tomorrow is my 5th chemotherapy treatment. I am almost finished with this series!! I am receiving 2 different types of chemo, so I go Thursday as well. The extra chemo drug hits very hard! My surgery will be scheduled for mid-July. I am happy to report that the tumour has shrunk significantly, which means that the surgeon will take far less tissue. It’s a little up in the air right now what will happen after surgery. I’ll either do 4 more chemo sessions, then radiation, or I will be referred to radiation either way no more chemo. I’ve gotten used to not really knowing what’s coming next, and not making plans too far in advance! The oncologist did warn me that the effects of chemo would be cumulative, and boy, was he ever right. The recovery after each session takes longer, and I am not recovering to my previous level of wellness. The fatigue and weakness are very debilitating, for sure. However….. on a very positive note, the tumour shrinkage!! I’m alive, I’m maintaining a good weight which helps to keep me stronger, although the side effects are yucky and sometimes very uncomfortable, they’re not TERRIBLE (its shocking to me the variety and volume of chemicals that are going into me!), I’m receiving amazing care, I have this very loyal dog that can’t seem to get close enough to me, my family has been fantastically supportive, helpful, caring and loving, AND I had 2 random people tell me today that the baldness suits me, lol! Maybe I’ll keep my Sinead O’Connor look. Actually what I have is peach fuzz, not total baldness, but it’s white, and I love it!! All in all, when I originally said I was going to kick cancer in the dick, I meant it. Seems I’m winning! by @lauralfinlayson
