The first stage is finding a little comfort with yourself while life is complicated.

My thoughts are not happening to me. My emotions are not happening to me. I can observe them, let life flow, and somewhere in me I feel safe and okay.

The space in your room seems limited by its four walls. It isn't. It's the vast space of the universe.

Rupert Spira on why each of us feels like a temporary, limited being, and what we really are.

What are we really afraid of when we fear being rejected?

The deeper you go, the clearer it gets: the essence of you is love itself. You can't reject it, any more than you can reject air. What people judge is only a concept of you.

Confidence is great. Ego is something else.

Ryan Holiday on the difference: ego is confidence without basis, a sense of self that has outpaced what supports it. And crippling self-doubt, he says, is its own kind of self-absorption.

People ask her: when am I done? When am I healed?

Michelle Nolan's answer: you're not, ever, and that isn't the point. It's about understanding and acceptance, and living with your shadow, your wounds and the world. Living in it.

We keep looking for an authentic place to land. It doesn't exist.

Authenticity is big and small choices that are true, that make you feel alive and free. It doesn't mean it always works out, and it isn't a final destination. It's a relationship with yourself, of following what's true.

From my conversation with Michelle Nolan, this Thursday on The Art of Authenticity.

In whose service is your free will? — Rupert Spira
Maybe the question isn't whether we have free will, but what we use it for.

Rupert Spira puts it simply: do you use your free will in service of the sense of separation, or in service of the unity of being? Those are the two basic choices.

Respond from your being — Rupert Spira
When someone says something that upsets you, learn to respond from your being.

Rupert Spira describes a pause: turning first toward your being, taking refuge there even for a few moments, and then responding from that place. You may respond with feeling, but not from your feelings.

Every person is an endless mystery — Guy Sengstock
We could talk for a thousand years, share every memory, reveal everything, and still never find the point where one person ends.

Guy Sengstock on why another human being is a source of inexhaustibility, and what that does to the way we listen.
