This @highzerofoundation set just came out on YouTube though it’s been almost a year since it was played. I haven’t stopped thinking about it one bit for many reasons:

1. The debut of the Retainer (it retains audio and is worn as a retainer) built by @levi.lu1 and myself was, I feel, a success barring the three days of time devoted to building it right before the show.

2. High Zero 2025 was such a wonderful experience and this was the first set I played on, the crowd standing room only to hear us play *beep boop* for four days in a row. I’m so happy I got a chance to participate and be in Baltimore again.

3. And finally what a set! Erin Demastes *chef’s kiss* and Laure Drogoul *woooo*. If you have 14 mins check it out, I think its a very unique presentation of free improv.

Shoutout, as always, to @alejandro_quilesss for the ridiculous videography and editing. Rotate your damn phones! by @lauredrogoul

We hope you can join us at @redemmas Baltimore's radical bookstore on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7PM!

NYC-based theater-maker Lizzie Olesker @lisolesk and filmmaker Lynne Sachs will present a performative reading of

Hand Book: A Manual on Performance, Process, and the Labor of Laundry

with Baltimore artist @lauredrogoul and film programmer Joanna Raczynska @joasia70.

Red Emma's is a worker cooperative bookstore at 3128 Greenmount Avenue, dedicated to putting principles of solidarity and sustainability into practice in a democratic workplace.

Hand Book: A Manual @punctum_books is a collection of writings and images from a performance and film set within a neighborhood laundromat, a microcosm of service work within our urban reality. Our performative reading will include an excerpt from SILVIA FEDERICI's foreword to the book, a dramatic reading from our play, and short film screening -- together offering a deep, poetic dive into laundry and its history.

“This generously kaleidoscopic offering invites readers to think through the labor of laundry via an impressive array of modes in an interactive collage of perspectives, histories, and bodies.” - Christopher Harris, filmmaker

“A beautiful example of how art in tandem with other methods of revelation can illuminate the everyday, at once celebrating a particular aspect of how people live, critiquing the power dynamic it contains, and seeking to intervene in bad ‘business as usual.’” – Jan Cohen-Cruz, author of Meeting the Moment: Socially Engaged Performance

Currently on view through 4/29 in the Fox 2 Gallery:
Student work from GFA classes "Collage & Assemblage" taught by Laure Drogoul and "Mixed Media Book" taught by Stephanie Garmey

Both classes will be offered Fall 2026:

GFA 270 - Collage & Assemblage
Tuesdays 10am-3:30pm
Faculty: Laure Drogoul
3 Credits
Collage has been described as the primary medium of the 20th century. The multi-layering of images and materials reflect the cultural and technological flux of the modern age. This mixed-media course explores the 2-D and 3-D possibilities of working with collage and assemblage. Course content examines the formal narrative and conceptual issues of the collage process and form. Weekly slide lectures and materials examine artists working within these media. Students are encouraged to develop a personal direction.

GFA 305 - Mixed Media Book
Fridays 9am-3pm
Instructor: Stephanie Garmey
3 Credits
This class will focus on a variety of contemporary book forms and emphasizes the freedom to develop the content within. Structures will created experimenting with scale from the small and intimate to the large and expressive, to the sculptural, with a look at installation. We will be creating with a variety of materials, exploring the relationship between the book form and materials selected. Some areas explored will be trace monoprints, contemporary paper cutting, wet and dry media, embroidery drawing, alternative surfaces and dipped paper encaustics for transparent books. The class will be supplemented with related artists slide lectures, articles, MICA’s Book Arts collection and visiting artists. Undergraduates at the Sophomore level or higher only, or by permission. taken in Maryland Institute College of Art by @lauredrogoul
