Like nearly everyone who happens to be alive on planet earth right now, I believe Nick Offerman is a national 💎. He is a brilliant actor and VERY annoyingly talented in 50 different ways. Have you seen the canoes he builds? How about the elm record player? Read any of his good, good books full of lessons on everything from what it takes to make a marriage work to what he learned as a kid, pig farming with his grandad?

What I didn’t know at first is that he’s also an intellectual of epic proportions. An environmental historian, a champion of wild places, and the often unsung people and other animals who inhabit them. And OMG now, I am one of these animals!

I am also monumentally grateful. by @laurel_braitman

For years, my dad got the @wsj delivered and it was one of my chores to go get it from the mailbox. Today I'm in it (in this piece by Emily Bobrow) talking about trying to be open to love, grief support, and my work at @StanfordMedMuse and @Stanford.Med helping physicians, clinical students and other healthcare professionals tell their own stories about what matters most.

Life is a trip.

Thank you to the incredible @intheseeyes and photo assistant @jvyyshep for making me feel like myself and for trekking all over the ranch. I hope the burrs you got in the name of art were worth it. They were for me.

In addition to two days and nights of public rodeo in Las Vegas — @blackrodeousa and @brusafoundation held a rodeo for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and an event for kids to learn roping, barrel race on stick horses, and see the incredible athletes and their horses close up. I was there to meet and learn from reigning Queen @roughkountryrye and let me tell you—I was as awestruck as the kids. As they filed out of the bleachers after the performance, she waved and asked them what their favorite part was. Almost all of them said “you.” 👑 by @laurel_braitman

We’ve been meeting as a group since March 2020 but this is our first session dedicated entirely to women’s health. All genders welcome. No writing experience necessary. Cost is not a barrier.

@rebecca.n.thompson will offer lots of insights about writing on the theme of women’s health both broadly and specifically. You will write in response to custom prompts and have a chance to share. We would so looooove to see you and we know you have stories, probably too many stories, to share.

My Substack is free, like my opinions.
I’m also including writing prompts. One of this week’s: “Write about a time you said yes but meant no.”

The 2027 calendar for Paintrock Canyon Ranch vacations is open for bookings!

Next year, we’re offering a lineup of five-night stays that include Ranch Vacations, two Advanced Riders weeks, and workshops in horsemanship, writing, painting and food.

Every week is spent on our working cattle ranch below the Bighorn Mountains of northern Wyoming. You’ll horseback ride, learn from people who run the ranch, and eat dinner at out communal table with no more than fourteen guests.

Ranch vacations are the backbone of our season. You spend a week on horseback exploring the Paintrock’s canyons and other geological formations. Every level is welcome, including complete beginners.

Our wranglers will work with you to match you with the right horse, and our daily riding groups are organized by experience level, so that you can go at whatever pace you feel most comfortable.

Ranch Vacation weeks are available from June to August.

For those who want to maximize riding time, we have two Advanced Riders weeks available, in June and September, for riders comfortable at every gait.

@cam_schryver_riding_lessons will return for two workshops: Working Ranch Horsemanship, which includes cattle work, and Fundamentals of Horsemanship.

We’ll also host creative workshops, including Writing with @laurel_braitman at the end of August

And Capturing the Western Landscape with artist @katierodgers

Finally, during Harvest Season we offer two weeks built around food.

Harvest Week is a ranch vacation week with special dinners that highlight local and seasonal foods with wine pairings, and special nights like a pasture dinner with the horses.

We’re also introducing a special week with naturalist and chef @texas_josh. Each day will center on one type of protein — bison, beef, trout, game birds, and elk — exploring how each food is procured from the land, followed by time in the kitchen every afternoon preparing the evening’s meal.

Every week is based at Camp, set up at the mouth of Paintrock Canyon alongside the creek.

We have a few weeks available for private groups. If you’re interested in more information, send us a message or email and we can share availability.
