Ever meet the dress of your dreams? I have been waiting for this dress my entire life. I used to play dressup and pretend to be a princess or a forest maiden in thrifted Gunne Sax dresses until the world told me that I was too big to be a princess and needed to dress like a matron by the ripe old age of ten. As I grew, my options shrunk. The world became less magical. (Photo by David Volker)
This #gifted “Kate” Gunne Sax x @modcloth dress definitely helped heal that wound. It goes up to a plus size 4x and will forever be a special part of my wardrobe.

If this is your vibe, this is your scent: Stoner by Leland Francis. Made with natural, organic ingredients, this “green” unisex fragrance fades into an earthy Palo Santo with herbaceous notes. Perfect to complement the leftover smokiness of an afternoon sesh or for grounding a lighter scent, for those who enjoy layering. I can’t wait to explore their other scents!

I celebrated my birthday in this dream, the GUNNE SAX Jenny Maxi Dress, gifted by @modcloth from their enchanted Spring collection. My heart leapt for joy when I saw the inclusive sizing, having never had access to my FAVORITE dresses… and it is COVERED IN FLOWERS AND UNICORNS!

I remember thrifting these as a child adding “Princess Dresses” and fairy frocks to my dress up box and being sad when I could no longer play in them as I grew taller but never less whimsical. This perfect little mint cloud really fills a little void that I didn’t realize was there. NGL… I cried when I opened it!

I share a bday with my toddler son’s bestie and let me tell you, there is no better crowd for this dress than a ton of sugarfied co-op kids. Their lives are fueled by whimsy and play-based learning, so I love to be able to add to their joy.

I will remember this beautiful day every time I put this dress on! I can’t wait to wear it to Fairyland to meet the Easter Bunny. Do you think he will approve? 🐰 #gunnesax #plussizeboho #modcloth #cottagecoreaesthetic #retrostyle by @laureldickmanwrites

Marukan French Vinaigrette with Walnuts, Shallots, and Mustard (vinegar gifted by @marukanvinegar

Equipment: mixing bowls, stick blender, small sautee pan, stove.

One shallot
Handful of shelled walnut halves
1 c peach juice
1 T tamari
1 T peace glaze (for finishing, not necessary)
1 cup Marukan Seasoned Gourmet Rice Vinegar
1/2 c olive oil, 1/2 c to cook with or add as needed
Good whole seed mustard (Maille is always a classic, but use your favorite if you have one)
Torn or minced fresh Parsley
1 T Herbs du Provence (fresh is amazing, dried is totally sufficient)
Black Pepper
Couple of shakes of Nutmeg, Cinnamon, and Allspice.
Smoked salt (regular is fine, I just love the extra smoky aspect)

I season by taste and measure from my heart, so these amounts are estimates.

Toast your walnuts in a hot pan for a few minutes. Add a tiny bit of oil right before you take it off the heat to really get them toasted and a deeper flavor. Remove from stove and put in mixing bowl. Drizzle vinegar, tamari, or juice on top to stop the cooking process.

Add more oil to the pan and sautee minced shallot until clear or slightly brown. Add to bowl.

Add peach juice and mustard. Blend til smooth. Add dry ingredients and blend until fully combined. Taste, add more of whatever might be needed per your personal taste/ not sweet enough? Try honey or maple rather than sugar. Needs more tang? Add more vinegar or mustard. Want some heat? Add more coarse black pepper or a dash of horseradish or cayenne.

Drizzle with peach glaze if you have it. If not, it is still great without.

I used this with a bagged herb and spring greens salad from my local grocery, boiled eggs, and a rotisserie chicken.

I tossed in some shredded cabbage mix, paper thin onion slices, more walnuts, fresh Parmesan, tomatoes, and a healthy grinding of black pepper on top.

Back to my (grey) roots. Needed to lose the hair weight and a big change to move myself out of my rut. Feeling a big loss in a big way, even months later, and it felt appropriate to grieve and grow with a cut.

Thanks, Rubilynn @eclipxehairberkeley

I truly live in one of the most beautiful places in the United States. Pomo Canyon and Russian River always remind me to slow down and be still for a little while. There are much bigger, more important things in this world than humans. #pomocanyon #sonomacounty #russianriver #redwoods #fatgirlstraveling #daycamping #fatgirlshiking #plussize by @laureldickmanwrites

Very late Summer Solstice fit post. Yes, those are recovery sandals. No, my sore feet and I don’t care. Spent the early evening at Totland with my boys and the beautiful light all around us. This was taken at around 7pm. In a couple of months, 7pm will look far darker. Enjoy the world around you as it is :)

Happy Mother’s Day to my mother and maternal figure/auntie friends and those of us who helped raise each other. I love you, I love the people who have made us moms, and I love our children, bloodfamily or otherwise.

$What is your favorite scent or fragrance? I have so many… cardamom, ginger, peony, magnolia, amber, orange blossoms… lucky for me, this gorgeous modern evening floral, Crystal Noir by @Versace, hits so many of those notes and layers perfectly with my favorite gourmands. I paired this scent with a plum smoky eye to emphasize the femme fatale vibe that it brings forward. If you are seeking #luxuryforless why not check out La Belle Perfumes? They have been around for 40+ years and @labelleperfumes is the best source for authentic designer fragrances at a much lower price point. Why pay full price when you can pay a fraction for the exact same product. Treat yourself right, so you can treat yourself more. 😉 #luxuryfragrance #crystalnoir #berkeleyblogger #designerfragrance #labelleperfumes #sfblogger #grwm cc: @apexdropofficial by @laureldickmanwrites$

Birthday week photo dump with family :) This is 41… by @laureldickmanwrites

Easy Weeknight Maple Sausage Skillet

Made an easy weeknight dinner using fresh veggies and tasty Vermont Maple Syrup Breakfast Sausage Patties from Johnsonville. This would be incredible for a weekend brunch with a couple of eggs on top, but I was craving sausage and veggies for an early dinner. Not pictured: my tasty air fryer polenta cakes. This would also work well with grits, alongside potatoes, or on top of a bed of quinoa and greens.

I used cracked black and crushed red pepper, nutmeg, allspice, garlic powder, grated ginger, and a touch of cumin, leaning into the warming spices to complement the sweetness of the sausage, rainbow carrots, sweet yellow onion, minced garlic, and halved brussel sprouts. If you don’t have all of those individual spices or the room for the, a bit of pumpkin pie spice mix would suffice with garlic and pepper. A sweet, hot mustard would also be an excellent companion.

I gave it a head start on the stovetop while my oven finished preheating to 400°F and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring once midway through.
