It was Nest Day at our Lower School!

One special highlight was an activity led by our Grade 6 students with our CH 1 & 2 classes. Together, they created bracelets inspired by the people and things they’re thankful for; a colourful reminder of the little (and big!) things that make life special.

We love seeing our older students take the lead, build connections and help our youngest learners celebrate gratitude in such a meaningful way.

Once a part of Lauremont, always a part of the Lauremont family!

Yesterday, we welcomed our alumni back to the Upper School for an afternoon of reconnecting, reminiscing and catching up!

It was so special to have familiar faces back in our halls exploring the school to see what’s new and sharing stories and life updates with old friends and teachers. So much may change over the years, but the connections and memories made at Lauremont will always be part of the story.

Thank you to everyone who came out! We loved having you back and can’t wait to welcome you home again.

Children don’t just learn by listening. They learn by doing, exploring, touching, testing and discovering.

That’s why hands-on learning is such an important part of Montessori education.

In our Lower School classrooms, Montessori materials give students the opportunity to explore concepts in a concrete, meaningful way. Whether they’re working with numbers, language, science, or practical life skills, students are encouraged to engage with their learning; not simply be told the answer.

Because when children can experience an idea for themselves, learning becomes something they can see, feel and understand.

It’s not just about completing a lesson. It’s about building curiosity, problem-solving skills, confidence and a deeper understanding that can grow with them.

Today, our Grade 6 students spent their day at the Upper School for a day of exploring, connecting and getting a feel for what’s ahead!

They met new teachers, caught up with familiar faces and joined the Grade 7's for activities. They even had the opportunity to enjoy lunch in the dining hall! This gave our grade 6 students a glimpse into their next chapter at Lauremont.

It was a day full of new experiences, familiar friendships and plenty of excitement for what’s to come. Grade 7, here they come! 👀💙 by @lauremontschool

We’re incredibly proud of our student Roy Chang, whose karting journey has taken him all the way to Italy! After starting in motorsports without a previous background and working his way forward from the back of the field, Roy has become a regular contender for race wins in some of Canada’s most competitive Junior races.

Now, he’s taking on a whole new challenge at the ROK Cup SuperFinal in Lonato, Italy, where he’ll compete against drivers from around the world with Zanchi Motorsport.

What an incredible opportunity to put all of his hard work, determination, and growth to the test on an international stage.

Good luck, Roy! We’ll be cheering you on from home every step of the way. 💙🇨🇦🏎️🇮🇹🏁

Why Montessori?

What if instead of doing things for children, we gave them the tools and confidence to do things for themselves?

Independence is at the heart of Montessori education. In our Lower School classrooms, students are encouraged to make purposeful choices, take responsibility for their work, solve problems and develop the confidence to try things on their own.

It might look like choosing a lesson, preparing their workspace, caring for their environment, or working through a challenge before asking for help. These everyday experiences help children build something much bigger: confidence in their own abilities. 💙

Because independence isn’t about doing everything alone. It’s about knowing, “I can try. I can figure this out. I can do this.”

That’s the power of a Montessori environment. ✨

This week, our Grade 6 students visited Crawford Lake Conservation Area for a day of exploration, discovery and hands-on learning.

Students toured the conservation area, visited the longhouses and learned about the history and traditions of Indigenous peoples in the area, including the significance of lacrosse.

They also explored the unique natural history of Crawford Lake itself and discovered how the lake’s environment has helped us learn more about the past.

A meaningful day of connecting with history, culture and the natural world all while learning beyond the classroom.

A little act of kindness can make a big difference.

Our Grade 6 student showed incredible generosity by donating her hair to Angel Hair for Kids, where it will help create wigs for children experiencing hair loss due to cancer and other medical conditions. 💇‍♀️🩷

What an inspiring example of using what you have to make someone else feel a little more confident, cared for and supported.

We couldn’t be prouder of her kindness and compassion.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our students spent time connecting with nature, engaging in meaningful reflection, and continuing to learn about the histories and experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Students took part in a nature walk and had the opportunity to place their hands within a Medicine Wheel. A traditional Indigenous teaching tool that can represent interconnected aspects of life, such as the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of our well-being. Medicine Wheels are not one universal symbol; their teachings and meanings vary among Indigenous Nations and communities.

Through moments of quiet reflection, conversation, and learning, our community came together to honour the children who never returned home, Survivors and their families, and the ongoing journey of reconciliation.
