Day 15/30. HALFWAY 😳

I promised I’d show you what works, what doesn’t, and whether any of this actually makes a difference. And the answer halfway through is… complicated 😂

Some of this is working in ways I genuinely didn’t expect. Some of it very much is not lol. But every time a complete stranger watches Rhythm Is a Dancer and tells me they connected with it, I’m reminded why I started this whole thing.

I’ve always believed the audience for this movie is out there. I’ve found some of you. Now I need to find A LOT more 😂❤️

15 days left. Let’s see what happens.

Day 14/30 of trying to convince strangers on the internet to watch my movie 😂

Apparently you guys also want to know how I actually MADE this thing, so here we go!!

18 days. Directing + acting. Monitors hidden under beds 😂 Whatever it took to get the movie made.

Maybe I’ll start sharing more of the chaos behind how we pulled this thing off while I’m trying to figure out how to get people to watch it ❤️

Day 13/30 and apparently today we’re learning about indie film distribution 😂

Turns out getting your movie distributed and actually getting it DISCOVERED are two very different things. Even when you do have a marketing plan!

The more I make these, the more I realize I have no idea what I’m doing 😂 Very humbling to figure this out publicly on the internet lol. But I know this isn’t just my movie, it’s an indie movie problem. I’m even seeing some of you start doing this for your films now, which is so cool and also… kinda sad that this what we have to do?! 😂 Indie filmmakers, we’re the underdogs!! We’re gonna figure this out ok!!!

Still waiting on our latest numbers so I don’t even know if any of this is working yet 😂 Fingers crossed ❤️

Day 13. We continue!

Day 12/30 ❤️ Okay this one is obviously a little personal 🙈

I spent so much of my life wondering what it would be like to meet my biological father, and years later I got to put a version of that experience into a movie. And somehow got the amazing Tate Donovan to play my character’s biological father (you know, The O.C., Hercules, Friends!! ). Which is still so wild when I think about it. 🥹

You guys have been asking to actually SEE more of the movie, so today I’m trying a little less talking about it and a little more showing you 😂

If you’re new here, hi! I’m Lauren. I wrote, directed and starred in RHYTHM IS A DANCER, and for 30 days I’m trying to convince strangers on the internet to watch it.

I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing 😂 but I promised I’d show you what works and what doesn’t in real time.

Day 12. Let’s see if this works. 😂❤️

Day 11/30 of trying to convince strangers on the internet to watch my movie… and when you don’t have a giant marketing budget, you simply start bothering your talented friends while they’re at work 😂

@johnnowilson sending me this FROM SET is killing me 😭 You are the best. Thank you for joining my extremely unofficial marketing department.

He said it, not me!!! Grab your remote 😂❤️

Tomorrow Day 12 we’re getting into the part of indie filmmaking I haven’t really talked about yet… the numbers. 👀

What does “success” actually mean for a movie like mine? And how many people actually need to watch it?

Day 10 of 30 ❤️ This one still gives me goosebumps.

Maybe I’ve been trying so hard to figure out how to convince strangers to watch my movie that I forgot I could just… show you why I care about it so much? 😂

So today’s experiment: more of the actual movie, more of the stories behind it. Let’s see what happens.

The "Rhythm Is a Dancer" writer/director talks about how she turned her frustrations over getting her movie seen into a marketing tool, and how she harnessed social media to make millions aware of her film.

Day 8/30 and I’ve officially started calling in reinforcements 😂

Thank you @mattycardarople for your completely voluntary participation in this experiment.

I made a movie. Now I’m spending 30 days trying to convince strangers on the internet to watch it and seeing what actually works.

Today’s experiment: make my much funnier friends do the convincing for me.
