Infant communication can start with one small cue: your baby points, you look where they point, then check their face.

That shared moment says, "I see it too." Pointing and looking back at you are early building blocks for conversation. Your baby is sharing attention before they have the words to tell you what caught their eye.

Try it during an ordinary moment today. Follow their point, name what you both see, and pause for their response. A tiny back-and-forth. That counts.

Does phonics work? It can, but first a child may need to hear the sounds in words.

Try this quick sound game: say "sun," "sock," and "moon." Which two start with the same sound? Sun and sock. That's phonemic awareness, hearing and playing with sounds before matching them to letters.

Then try blending: "What word is /c/ /a/ /t/?" If that's tricky, stay with sound games for now. A worksheet can wait. Ear work comes first.
