Hands down the best, yet most challenging thing I’ve ever done. About 4,000ft of elevation gained reaching 13,044ft with the most beautiful views and people. Words or photos truly can never fully explain this experience, but I will say to never hold yourself back thinking you can’t do something. You have the strength from within no matter what that challenge is. The most beautiful growth, experiences and people will come into your life that will be well worth it. Sappy post alert, but will try to keep it short: My trip to Guatemala was booked on a random day in September when I decided to choose myself. For my 30th birthday I wanted to do an international volunteer trip because I knew my soul was craving a solo trip to serve, adventure and to immerse myself in being out of my comfort zone. Amidst the chaos of life I lost sight of that goal and it never happened. I built my trip around a volunteer program where I ended up working in a small village called Duenas outside of Antigua. This was a new opportunity that the church’s village offered where volunteers from @maximoabroad and @ivhq come in to empower and guide their youth. Trips and experiences like this is something I truly crave and feel fulfilled in a way where words can’t be articulated, almost another language in itself. Expanding your perspective on life, the world and people is the most fruitful thing you can do for yourself and others as it’s incredibly easy to fall into autopilot or the inherited habits/comfort of life. Here I met kids from ages 1-22, all with incredible potential, intelligence and eagerness to want more for themselves. James and Jack aspire to be nurses where Dennis wants to be a cook. We practiced English around what they want to be when they grow up and common conversation words as their first step. I ended my week teaching them how to speak positively about themselves as well as others in hopes of empowering them that they are capable despite the circumstances they may have grown up in. One week way too short, but I hope this encourages others to maintain a balance of choosing yourself while also being there for others. The world has a lot of hatred, conflict, disagreement, opinions, judgement… you name it and at the end of the day we are all human and deserve to be heard, loved and supported no matter what. Never lose sight of those inner desires, child-like dreams and unapologetic acceptance of yourself and others and you can’t go wrong. Now go and do that one thing you’ve always wanted to do, but never did regardless of what it may be. Sorry for the novel my people ✌🏼Choosing you es Que Chilero! #ivhqguatemala #ivhq by @laurendon213
A lil solo soul sabbatical featuring stars, slots and simplicity ✨💫 ~I love alliteration~ by @laurendon213
Some mornings just hit a little differently, and this one had me feeling my feels and I felt called to reflect and share 🫣 I turned a corner on my usual morning walk and was completely captivated by Mother Nature doing her thang. When I tell you the moon was LARGE and in charge… I had to stop for quite some time to take it in properly. Pictures simply don’t do it justice. I’ve always felt that life reveals its magic in the most serendipitous, unexpected moments. The ones that make you pause, feel something deeper, feel connected and remember that there’s so much more to life than what’s right in front of us. I don’t think that’s accidental. I think there’s intention and meaning behind it. My *morning moon moment* reminded of something I’ve always believed: finding novelty in the everyday matters. The same walk can hold a completely different meaning like mine did this AM. Skip snooze and catch the sunrise, try that coffee shop 10 minutes out of your way, take a different route on your walk or to work, or say good morning to someone you’d usually pass by and learn their story. No matter how small or significant… these little shifts matter. They help you reconnect with yourself and remind you of your inner compass: what lights you up, calms you, inspires you, and makes you feel alive. Sometimes, one small change in perspective is all it takes to redirect your path toward something you never imagined. For me, nature and moments like this bring me back to a feeling I can never seem to put into words… how vast this world and life really are, and how deeply connected we are to something greater than ourselves vs what the material world tends to focus on. It’s so easy to get consumed by the challenges, insecurities, and unknowns of everyday life. But then a moment like this comes along and puts everything into perspective. It grounds you. It reminds you to trust your light and lean into the moments, experiences, and connections that bring you back to you. Find novelty in the mundane. Stay curious. Fiercely embrace change. You never know what a slight shift might reveal to you. ✨🌙 🌕 by @laurendon213
