JULY ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH - for the month of July, I want to congratulate Lauren Gaggioli for being selected as our Rotarian of the Month. When we asked for volunteers to lead the food collection at the weekly Concerts on the Green, Lauren enthusiastically took the lead, has coordinated with the food bank for weekly food drop off, sets up our Rotary tent at the concerts for visibility each week, befriended the Kiwana Club members to facilitate future collaboration, created flyers and is doing outreach to concertgoers to spread the word about Rotary and the Issaquah Sammish Food Project. All of this has been done with her characteristic charm and smile, and we are so lucky to have her as a member and ambassador for Rotary. Thank you for all you do for our club and community, Lauren! by @laurengaggioli

Mike once told me that the answer to every question wasn’t a new book. And he’s right. Kind of. But what we can learn in books can create new understanding and inspire impactful action.

I don’t want my children inheriting the strife we are witnessing right now. I want them to love deeply and know the inherent worthiness of all people. I want them to be equipped with critical thinking skills that run on dual tracks of unassailable logic and deep-seated values, not dehumanizing rhetoric and tribalistic “gotcha” moments.

The moral arc of the universe may bend towards justice of its own accord, but I’m gonna do my bit to nudge it a little closer, a little faster if I can.

Are there any books you’d add to this list? by @laurengaggioli

Feeling a little ungrounded lately? There’s a lot to be worried about. Big upheaval is all around and life just keeps on life-ing.

Truth be told: I’ve been in the doldrums this year. It seems like everything feels hard and heavy.

On top of that, this week is especially difficult personally because it would have been my dad’s birthday last Thursday and then Father’s Day is right on its heels. It’s a one-two punch in the feels.

But one thing I am actively reminded to be grateful for every even-numbered month is how lucky I am to be able to feed my children well any time they are hungry.

That nudge towards gratitude instead of complacency is thanks to the Issaquah Sammamish Food Project that benefits @issaquahfoodandclothingbank.

The premise is simple…

If we come together as a community we can help create greater food security for our community.

And 6 Saturdays a year, that’s what we do.

As my amazing friend Jen (@healthymoving) reminds me, small hinges swing big doors. When we work together towards a common purpose, little efforts can create big impact.

It’s such a ridiculously small commitment it feels dumb *not* to do it. And it’s something we can do now to gratefully acknowledge the abundance in our lives and share it with our neighbors.

I am so thankful to my amazing neighbors who continue to say YES! and donate to this great cause.

If you believe that action is the antidote to anxiety, consider joining in an organized effort that positively impacts your local community.

I promise that it will make even your hardest days feel better.

If you’re local and want more info, lmk! And if you’re not but are already involved in a community group, share it below! I’d love to be inspired by all the creative ways communities are coming together right now.

I found a new friend at @fiberfusionnw - ya know, just tucked in among the zinnias. @wool.and.pen’s felt artwork is absolutely stunning and a commissioned piece will soon grace our walls, but this little sprout begged to come home with me today.

…wonder what I’ll feed her? 🩸 by @laurengaggioli

3.30.2025 GOTCHA DAY! 🐾 Welcome home Hopper!

Two weeks ago, the kids and I casually, 100% non-committally 😉 visited @seattlehumane on a Friday. This guy was released mid-day Saturday from his post-surgery hold after 3 dogs we’d come back to see hadn’t worked out.

We realized very quickly that our house wasn’t ready for a pup twice the size we were thinking we’d be getting so we ran home, got ready, and were there first thing Sunday to pick him up.

(My kids have never picked up their toys so quickly!)

Things happen for a reason, friends! Hopper’s the sweetest - a true dream with the kids! I knew he was ours from the first moment we met him.

Plus, he’s a one-eyed dog who still manages to have heterochromia. Straight up forest pirate magic right there. 🏴‍☠️

We hit the jackpot! THANK YOU SEATTLE HUMANE! Our hearts are so full! 💜

…and be sure to scroll to the end to see how pretty he sits for food. 🤣 by @laurengaggioli
