It 👏🏼 takes 👏🏼 time 👏🏼

If you’re here just beginning to care for your curls I wanna let you know I’ve been there and Ik it’s not an easy transition.

It’s pretty clear that I was working with some serious damage from years of using heat tools daily and dying my hair every shade of red under the sun 😅 but I didn’t want to chop it all off and start over. Instead, I made some changes while attempting to be as patient with my hair and the process as possible 🙃

💦 ditched the dye. The harsh chemicals from years of dying my hair and using bleach to achieve bold bright reds truly killed my hair. Letting the red grow out is definitely what took the longest.

💦 put down the hot tools. I used heat on my hair daily and it showed. I focused on air drying instead then slowly reincorporated low heat (diffusing) back into my routine.

💦 weekly conditioning treatments. The first weekly treatment that I truly stuck to I found in my kitchen 😂 La Tourangelle Avocado Oil 🥑 I’d leave it on for 30 minutes once a week.

3 ways to enhance your natural curl definition!

1. Ribbon curl technique - definitely my go-to and most used technique to achieve definition & volume! It creates larger defined curl clumps that can be separated for volume

2. Rake & Shake - the perfect technique to achieve separated but defined curls giving volume and definition for days

3. Finger rolling - the most tedious of the three but the results never fail! My go-to for my face framing pieces

Which curl definition method is your favorite!

just celebrated our two year wedding anniversary and looking back, marrying my husband was easily the best decision I made that day, but choosing to wear my hair curly was a pretty close second 🤍

Healthy Hair Habits for Length Retention

You keep your scalp healthy! Whether it’s doubling cleansing, detoxing, exfoliating or all the above you make it a priority to maintain a healthy scalp environment cause you know healthy hair starts at the root.

You detangle your knots gently! cause you know the right brush + proper technique can make a huge difference when it comes to preventing unnecessary damage & breakage. I’ve been loving the Ultimate Detangler from @tangleteezer for years & I also really like the Unbrush Flex from @fhiheat ♥️ I prefer to detangle my hair once I’ve let conditioner with plenty of slip sit for several minutes. Making detangling easier & gentler to minimize breakage & retain the length you’ve worked so hard for!

You trim your dead ends! I’ve averaged about 2 haircuts a year for the last year or two. While I wish I could make it to @thecurlsuite more often, I’ve found that twice a year is enough for me to remove my dead ends, reshape my grown out layers & maintain as much length as possible!
