I’d love to hear what your first thoughts where when scrolling through the first couple slides of this! After about 6 hours of walking through the @rionuevo_naturereserve at night and many awesome sightings we decided to head to the platform for a little chill and a drink and that’s when @rafisteinles spotted this incredible scene of a Tailless Whip Scorpion busy shedding! Not gonna lie there was a lot of shrieking and jumping with joy involved! 😂Getting the shot was quite tough as this was all happening at over 2 meters off the ground, I had to stand on an old wooden bench tip toed with my arms fully stretched out above my head. So you can imagine it was not an easy stack to pull off! But somehow it worked out perfectly and I’m very happy with the results! It was my first time seeing and photographing this awesome moment and I’m very stoked to have witnessed and documented it! For those of you that don’t know these fellas are arachnids but they aren’t spiders, they don’t possess any venom fangs or silk glands and are completely harmless although they can still grab a finger with these spiky claws. They might look a bit like something out of a horror movie but they can’t help it! ____________________- @sonyalpha A7RV- @sony 90mm macro- @godox_global V860iii- @cygnustech diffuser - Handheld manual focus stack Processed in Helicon____________________#ambyplygi #taillesswhipscorpion #arachnids #animalbehavior #wildlifephotography #costaricawildlife #biodiversity #arachnid #macrophotography #osapeninsula #amazingnature #naturelovers #costaricanature by @laurent_nam

Water Striders (Gerridae)This was a really tough one to get but I’m glad the many hours of balancing my camera over the pond finally payed off with this focus stacked image of this trio. I’m really loving the Sony 100mm macro with the 2x converter combo, being able to get pretty high magnification with a slightly longer working distance can open up some pretty cool new possibilities! The real advantage here was that by being a little bit further away meant I was less likely to scare these already very skittish bugs but also it allowed me to get a slightly lower angle which I really like and helps to cancel out reflections from the flash! I’ve got another couple of cool shots of them saved for later so they’ll definitely be back on my feed at some point! Don’t forget to swipe to the end 😉#insects #macrophotography #cygnustechdiffuser #wildlife #biodiversity by @laurent_nam

Dragonfly larvae First time attempting to photograph one, I’ve always wanted to get a shot of these and I finally gave it a go the other day. The pond had a bunch of them but was too deep to get any images of them through the water without an underwater setup so I decided to scoop one up into this banana flower petal, it was kind of boat shaped so I could fill it up with some water and have the larvae a bit more contained, it swam around for a bit and then finally stopped and stayed nice and still for a stack. I’d love to get a good opportunity to get the shot insitu one day but this will have to do for the while. It was tough finding a good angle where the diffuser didn’t cause reflections and where the angle of the water didn’t cause too much distortion but with a bit of experimenting I managed to get something I’m quite happy with. Of course after the shot I put it right back into the pond where it quickly swam back down to the bottom bellow the algae. In their nymphal stage they are aquatic and depending on the species they will remain like this for anywhere between a few months up to several years! They are formidable predators and can take on fairly large prey such as tadpoles and even small fish! #dragonfly #macro #insects #cygnustechdiffuser by @laurent_nam

How cute is this Bee?! 🐝🩷It is a type of Orchid Bee I believe possibly in the genus Eulaema and it’s got the most adorable face! How could anyone not love them? 😍I’ve already posted one of these crops for world bee day alongside a bunch of other bee images so you may recognize it but here it is at last with all the crazy details included!#bees #savethebees #orchidbee #cygnustechdiffuser #macrophotography by @laurent_nam

Super dorky little Plant hopper in the subfamily Derbinae. These little fellas can be a bit tough to approach for a closeup but with a bit patience and persistence this one ended up staying nice and still for a couple of focus stacks. I wonder if they didn’t make a typo when naming this group because derp is definitely the first thing that comes to mind when I look at that face! On a cold morning in Portugal I found this beautiful Wolf Spider with babies on her back scuttling near the house we were staying at in the Douro Valley. She was extremely active and pretty skittish which was surprising since it was pretty fresh but then again I’m a real wuss and can’t handle anything below 20 degrees Celsius so maybe it wasn’t that bad 😂I didn’t do much macro during my time in Portugal as I was mostly spending my time stuffing myself with all the delicious food but I’m definitely going to back for a bit longer next time and dedicate at least a couple days to doing macro in that beautiful country! #macro #portugal #spiders by @laurent_nam

Nope these aren’t some weird looking rice grains, what you’re seeing here are Fly eggs up close! We harvested a big bunch of bananas from the garden the other day and and as they ripened my wife noticed this little patch of tiny eggs on it. I’m glad I took out the camera to take a closer look as I really wasn’t expecting such a complex texture on them. This is a focus stacked image taken with the @sonyalpha A7RV and Sony 100mm macro with the 2x converter at around 2.8:1 magnification, handheld manual focus bracketing using the push method. This post shows only one image and all the closeups you’re seeing are crops from the 61mp stack! It’s incredible the details that this setup can capture especially with a good lighting combo such as the @godox_global V860III paired with the @cygnustech diffuser! #macro #closeup #cupoty #insects by @laurent_nam
