Designer, writer, and interior enthusiast. Doing a bunch of creative 💩 in the Chicago Suburbs

What kind of things do you struggle to find for your home? Let me know below! #chicagointeriordesign #interiordesign #interiordecor #chicagocreatives by @laurentarullo

A completely normal and proportionate amount of time and effort went into creating this dollhouse for a two year old who would have been equally happy with a cardboard box.

Anyway welcome to my largest (smallest??) renovation project to date.

Hi, I’m Lauren. I live in the Chicago suburbs where I design, write and make things. Here’s a brief history of how I got here featuring my shop, multiple identify crises and an increasingly concerning number of creative outlets. Glad you’re here! #chicagocreatives #creativelife #designer #chicagointeriordesign by @laurentarullo

I’m cooking up some new stuff for a launch next month. I’m really excited to be working with my hands again and little baby preteen Lauren would be absolutely screaming crying throwing up about it. Stay tuned for deets! by @laurentarullo

Somebody told me recently that the wallpaper feature wall is my thing and I immediately got defensive, then I counted—1,2,3,4,5x rooms I’ve done it in…shit.

Anyway, a wallpaper feature wall is my thing! by @laurentarullo

Just finished working on a full home visual design workshop for the best clients in the world (and I mean that literally, they’re based in Portugal). They were so refreshingly unafraid of color and the result is cool, relaxed but bold spaces anchored by natural materials and paired back shapes. Here’s a peek at the primary bath concept. by @laurentarullo

Happy Monday! Here’s are the rooms burned into my brain right now:

Everything @edgertonstudio does is so clean and cool but I especially love this boy’s room, which feels grown up without losing its sense of play.//

@design_bitches are the best in the biz and this delicious green linen bedding with the wood panels is beyond. //

I’ve been closely following @reathdesign alums @zebandcrunk and whenever I’m feeling a little uninspired I revisit this kitchen, which is bursting with charm and styled in such maximalist fashion that I find so unbelievably satisfying to the eye. //

I love this entire Santa Cruz forest home by @studio_shoshin . Her shop in downtown Carmel is so well curated and a testament to her refined taste. //

I love this bathroom from @house.of.milo and how the combination of materials really makes your eye bounce around the room. //

This pink kitchen by @sarahmontgomeryinteriors is what color dreams are make of and I love how the feminine cabinets are anchored by bulky hardware and the angular wood table/tufted black leather upholstery. Good contrast means everything! // by @laurentarullo

We’re having the house photographed by the lovely @sarahecrowley in a little over a month, so I don’t want to totally blow my load on kitchen photos, but here’s a little peak. She’s so fun! And functional! by @laurentarullo

Back to where it all began! I designed this little shop to feel like you were walking into someone’s home, and that’s how it felt to come to work every day. This view will live in my heart for all time! How cool is that? by @laurentarullo

As someone who didn’t go to school for interior design, I’ve had to find my own ways of communicating ideas. What started as an experiment has morphed into a fully realized process between Photoshop and AI, producing realistic images that help me visualize the final design product. These are especially helpful in our virtual work; clients can use renderings like these to communicate the design intent to onsite builders and contractors.

Our family room is where we spend a lot of our time. The house is a 1978 split level ranch, so this room, which is tucked away to the left of the entry, sits at the very front of the house elevated from the rest of the main level. The views to our neighbors and the towering forest beyond make it feel totally enclosed; my daughter refers to this room as the tree house room.

We went with white walls to offset all the saturation happening in the fabrics, and so we could highlight the windows. The star of it all is this spectacular @jake.snowden painting, aptly titled, “Sparklers in the Suburbs”. by @laurentarullo

I subscribe to the belief that baby’s room is really for the grown ups. In our son’s room I wanted a place that felt bold and graphic, but not so chaotic that it hurt my brain during night feedings.

We arrived at this “jungle inspired” concept featuring pink checkered carpet squares, @backdrop wallpaper, and this panther print by artist Eniko Eged. The result is a place that’s fun enough for a toddler and cool enough to him to grow into. by @laurentarullo
