After spending 17 years wrongfully imprisoned, Kristine Bunch knows what it means to fight for freedom. She also knows the power of finding a community that understands that fight.

Now director of the @indianainnocenceproject, Kristine shared her story with WRONGFUL CONVICTION, reflecting on the support, solidarity, and shared purpose that bring exonerees together.

For Kristine, the most powerful moment is always the same: watching newly freed people stand up and be celebrated for the battles they fought to reclaim their lives.

Because every exoneration is more than a victory for one person. It's a victory for the entire movement. by @lavaforgood

This is Kristine Bunch.

She was just 21 years old when a fire took the life of her 3-year-old son, Anthony. Devastated by the loss of her child, Kristine was then accused of setting the fire herself.

Convicted of murder and arson based on deeply flawed forensic evidence, she spent 17 years in prison fighting to prove her innocence. During that time, she gave birth to another son, earned two college degrees, and refused to give up hope.

In 2012, Kristine finally walked free.

Today, as director of the @indianainnocenceproject, she has turned her fight for justice into a mission to help others who have been wrongfully convicted.

Listen to her story on WRONGFUL CONVICTION.

Greg Bright spent 27.5 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit. He fought for decades to prove his innocence and finally won his freedom. Now, after reaching Louisiana's $400,000 compensation cap for wrongfully convicted people who have proven their innocence, he may have to sell his home just to pay his bills.

State lawmakers unanimously passed a bill to increase compensation for the wrongfully convicted. Governor Jeff Landry vetoed it.

This is Greg Bright.

He’s an artist, a performer, a homeowner, and a man who spent almost three decades in prison for a murder he did not commit. He was 20 years old when he was arrested. By the time he walked out of Angola State Prison, exonerated, he was nearly 50.

Greg taught himself to read and write in prison and eventually learned enough about the law to help fight for his freedom. After his exoneration, he built a life around creativity. He paints from his New Orleans home and worked with writer Lara Naughton to create "Never Fight a Shark in Water," a one-man show based on his life that he performs himself.

Louisiana can’t give Greg back the decades it took from him. And state law caps compensation for people who prove their factual innocence at $400,000—or $40k per year over 10 years. That's barely enough to live on. This year, lawmakers unanimously passed a bill raising that cap to $600,000 and extending payments from 10 to 15 years.

@govjefflandry vetoed it.

Greg used his compensation to help build a life after prison, including buying his home. Now, with his payments ending, he worries he may have to sell it.

He was an adult. They were teenagers.

Robin Murphy and her friends came to know Howard Gombert at the laundromat he worked at in town. He acted like one of them, offering alcohol, weed, and a place to hang out.

But to some of the kids who knew him, something never felt right.
