POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This week has brought three meaningful publications surrounding my practice.

Essence magazine published a beautiful feature on the Bahamas Pavilion, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Elephant for an in-depth interview, and the catalog for Dance With My Father Again has officially been released.

That's enough intellectual and critical engagement for me for the rest of the month.

The links to all three are in my bio. Have a look and explore.

This week at the Re Center, experimenting and collaborating with Lavar Munroe as we approach Fuze Caribbean Art Fair brought me back to Venice—to the shared energy of bringing an installation to life and discovering possibilities together.

It was especially cool to have the hands of people around the studio helping us hold pieces up and tie the structure together. Antonius was in the mix, Jason was in the mix, Matthew was in the mix, Eddion was in the mix. A true sense of community and collaboration, just like we experienced in Venice. There’s something special about watching an idea take shape through everyone’s contribution.

It also brought me back to my own artistic energy. Hospitality and tourism are deeply woven into our environment and how the world sees The Bahamas. And what object speaks more directly to a beach destination than a lounge chair?

These chairs had been taking shape in my head for a long time. Bringing them together, with a nod to Rauschenberg’s combines and Duchamp’s readymades, reminded me how much possibility lives in the familiar things around us. There was tremendous joy and satisfaction in finally making the idea tangible.

So much of my work in the art world involves creating opportunities for others. Moments like these reconnect me with the pleasure of making, and with the meaning that motivates everything else I do.

Grateful for Lavar, for everyone who lent a hand, and for more collaborations to come. These moments mean a great deal to me.

Thrilled to announce that I’ll be showing six new works with @larkindurey @154artfair London, alongside Fellow Bahamian artist @aninamajor and @marcpadeu

The presentation will bring together large-format paintings and a new series of works combining airbrush, newspaper, and antique funeral fans—a body of work I’ve been developing over the past several months.

Together, these works expand upon and build from the ideas currently unfolding in In Another Man’s Yard, the Bahamas National Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale, extending my ongoing exploration of memory, mourning, ritual, protection, and the presence of those who have passed.

More soon.

There’s a thin line between a studio and a shack.

Shifting gears in the studio as I focus on costume design for the upcoming Junkanoo Parade.

It’s in this craft where my heart really lies. Because of my early introduction to shack life, art and making became a passion long before I understood it as an artistic practice. My earliest introductions to line, color, texture, research, storytelling, and transformation all came through Junkanoo.

In many ways, the shack was my first studio.

Returning to this way of making always feels like returning to something fundamental—a place where imagination, community, and tradition collide.

Looking forward to making something magical and memorable.

Airbrush, newspaper, and antique funeral fan on paper.

Continuing to think through the hand fan as a form of comfort during grief—an object held close to the body, moving air, offering relief, while also carrying memory.

Here, antique funeral fans become part of the figure rather than simply something she holds. Newspaper fragments move through the body and background like traces of lives, announcements, histories, and things remembered.

This time last year, I was an artist-in-residence at SCAD Lacoste in the South of France, where I decided to use my time to teach myself how to airbrush.

I left France and, for whatever reason, put the airbrush down. Until now.

Still playing with the fans—thinking through the hand fan as a form of comfort, particularly in moments of grief and remembrance. I’ve picked the airbrush back up, working with paint and paper, allowing these materials to push the idea somewhere new.

Funny how a technique can sit dormant for a year and suddenly find its way back into the work when you need it.
