Hi @loveislandusa @peacock @arianamadix My name is Laveeta Evans and I am Deaf. I’ve watched Love Island USA from season 1 through season 8. I’ve tuned in. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve rooted for love. But every single season, I finish watching feeling the same way: displeased and deeply disappointed in you. Disappointed because not once have I seen myself represented. Not once have I seen a Deaf person walk into that villa. It hurts to be a loyal fan of a show that doesn’t see me, or my deaf community. You say you’re about love, connection, and diversity but where is the Deaf community in that? Where are we?You need to learn how to accept us and willingly take on the challenge of casting Deaf people who want to be on Love Island USA. We exist. We date. We flirt. We fall in love. We get our hearts broken. We are funny, messy, sexy and all the things that make great TV. The only difference is we experience the world through our eyes and hands, not our ears. And honestly? That would make the villa more interesting, not less.Stop acting like it’s too hard. It’s not. Provide interpreters. Add captions. Treat us like the adults we are. The challenge isn’t on us to “fit in” the challenge is on YOU to be truly inclusive and step up.We want the chance to date hearing people on the show, ages 21 to up (age is nothing but a number). Because love doesn’t have an age limit, and it damn sure doesn’t have a hearing requirement. Chemistry is chemistry. Attraction is attraction. Connection is connection. And we bring all of that.All of us willing to be that challenge for Love Island USA to represent my Deaf community and show the entire world that we belong there too. Little Deaf kids deserve to turn on the TV and see that they can be wanted, chosen, and loved on the biggest dating show in America.Eight seasons. Zero Deaf islanders. That’s not an accident that’s a choice. So I’m calling you out, and I’m calling you in. Do better. Be better. Real equality means everyone.
