cherry guy to announce I’ve been selected as a @teenvogue 21 under 21 πŸ’—

im filled with gratitude and appreciation for the other 20 youth and their work within their communities. the very cool and amazing @herculilz is included beside me uplifting and highlighting our MMIWG2S+ and bringing more awareness to this epidemic across ndn country.

im thankful to my friends, family and community for caring for me and getting me to this point. nothing i do or receive is without them and im humbled to learn from them all πŸ’

personally i feel that as bipoc people we are born into these roles as organizers to push against colonialism and white supremacy that tries to hold our people down. by simply living and breathing- we are combatting narratives and combatting colonialism.

i do not use or assume the title of activist for that reason. i believe im just a human doing the bare minimum to help make this world more cherry for my siblings and my community.

Harris Burnette, an Apache medicine man, told me, β€œ winners never quit and quitters never win”.
as mentioned in the article, winning is different for every person. look for winning for you- take pride and joy in your little moments of winning.

ahéhye’e to my bestfriend @tatankaciscila whose photographed me for both teen vogue articles and just for fun bc they’re the best πŸ’πŸ€Ž

ahéhye’e to different groups that have helped me in my journey @iiycfamily @youthphxindcenter @unityinc76 @advocatesforyouth @intertribalag @foodsovereignty

as always be safe and be well 🀎 ahéhye’e by @lavenderndn

the last remaining Grandmother tree was cut down on October 5th for the double border wall

the video of her death is graphic and nauseating, to hear the crack and the screams of those around her. She reminds me of the cottonwoods back on my rez and the one that sits in my grandparents yard. the murder of the tree may not seem important to small minds, but as Indigenous peoples we can understand the significance and heartache of this death. the roots of the tree have been there and been apart of so much- she saw so much life come and go and provided for her ecosystem

please follow and uplift @rally.forthevalley @oodhamsolidarity @tierralibre_noborders

don’t rely on colonial elections to save you and ur community - vote out the harmful and continue to organize and show up for the land, people and languages you come from

it’s no coincidence there is silence from @senmarkkelly and @senrubengallego - they have not stood in genuine solidarity with O’odham folks regarding their tribal sovereignty. call them and voice your concerns- as elected officials they should be actively engaged in every issue and they should be giving tribal governments the same respect they expect. They should not lean on Indigenous communities during election time but not show up when we are calling for them to take action.

From O’odham Jeved to Western Apacheria to Sudan to Bears Ears to the Black Hills to the Arctic to Congo and to Palestine - all we can rely on is one another and the community we build. our liberation means nothing without the liberation of others across the globe by @lavenderndn

Bears Ears needs our help
https://www.bearsearscoalition.org
The significance of Bears Ears cannot be reduced to a handful of individual sites or separate management areas. Tribal Nations understand Bears Ears as an interconnected living cultural landscape, where the land itselfβ€”and the relationships among its cultural sites, waters, plants, animals, and sacred placesβ€”are what must be protected.
Bears Ears is guided by the leadership of five sovereign Tribal Nations:
* Hopi Tribe
* Navajo Nation
* Ute Mountain Ute Tribe
* Zuni Tribe
* Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation
These Nations care for the monument through the Bears Ears Commission, working in collaboration with federal agencies

Tribal seals have recently been removed from the Bears Ears Monument sign, another attempt to diminish and erase the long standing history of the land. As we know, signs and borders are not what make an area- we must continue to persist and push back against modern day colonialism.

This area, like Chaco, like the Black Hills, like every inch of the US - holds a history and holds a relationship to the people of the land and those there.

Trump made comments that β€œYou can’t do anything. You can virtually not even walk on it” - meanwhile we see online people from all over the us and internationally sharing their hiking trips to the area, sharing the beautiful sights they saw and we hear the stories Tribal communities share.

This is a call to everyone, including and highlighting mormons/non indigenous utah folks- and to people here in the southwest or different areas. Continue to press your representatives, make the calls, write the emails. Stay connected to people doing the work and make sure Tribal Nations are apart of those networks. by @lavenderndn
