A love letter to Funky Town (Fortworth, TX) 💌I touched down to a muggy, thick air, and a neon red sun. Cowboy hats and a southern draw greeted me at every turn. We sat together in a 101 year old home, adorned with the light of our ancestors and the answers to our prayers. To be seen and to be heard by what felt like neighboring tribesman. The altars flickered their candle lights, and showed off their timeless artifacts. Incense smoke filled the room and baptized the lungs. Fela Kuti played while we sipped sorrel. A summer solstice family reunion is what I should have called this- creative, playful, intentional, and warm. Juaga ink etched into skin, watermelons and cigars, the traditions passed to us by our global ancestry. Late night kitchen conversations, invocations in the garden, children dancing to Michael Jackson, the adults vibing to Lavva….all is well in my heart when I reminisce on the magick of Funky Town. The herbs embraced on the hot coals and us, under the hot sun. We create heaven. Thank you family @justkadidra & @prof_khepera_el for holding space with me at such a tender and monumental time. I was put on this earth to love from the very tip of my toenails up to the top of my crown. Every cell in my body vibrates on the frequency of love. Buzzzzing 🐝 off the vibes in St. Petersburg FL! My tour Smoke and Sonics has opened up the way for so many beautiful creations, connections & consciousness. Shout out to all the lovely ladies that showed up and shared genuine love and interest in one another. 🍯We had 2 mother daughter duos that made this event a generational healing ceremony. Tears, dance, incense, laughs, hugs, ancestral veneration! I wrote this song in 2023 for my future self. The current me truly embodies this mantra as a way of life. And when I say nigga….i mean ANYBODY. Nobody has the power to tear me away from my purpose on this earth. My light is an extension of the most high’s and it is eternal. Thank you so much to my St. Petersburg Florida family who shared this day with me at Smoke and Sonics- filling our cups and leaning into community. This is really what it’s about! When I started carrying my basket I had no idea how many useful ways I could utilize them!
