BAD ACTING/CLYDE OUT NOW

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hello friends.

Maybe you saw already, but I’m charged as fuck to share that I’ve been chosen to join the 26/27 group of Resident Artists at Bristol Beacon. Feels like such a gift, especially to be there alongside friends and artists that I truly respect. We got together recently on our second induction day, and spoke closely about how we all felt somewhat like we’re “in between” people. Not like them four white dudes from that show that has, for some mad reason, become a cultural touchstone. But a shared feeling that we’re people who don’t always feel they have a home in their genre, expression or creativity. So to have been given a space where we can explore that kinda…liminal identity together is such a beautiful thing. Big ups to divine timing. I promise you all I will be annoying about this for the whole year.

Love always,

Lawi

Proof of life and music. Shoutout Godzilla. Shoutout @beniyasha.music and their sick new laboratory. In music news, myself and my band are supporting @big.lava on the 16th of November at the Exchange, in the cosy new basement. Do yourself a favour and come hang. I should mention, this particular show is in the middle of some other shows that aren’t announced yet, because everyone who plays this music game is too burnt out to create the relevant links for me to direct you to. I just want you to know that they’re happening and you want them.

I challenged these funk musicians to write a song inspired by a 13-minute Mars Volta epic… in just 3 hours.

For Episode 2 of The Deadline Sessions, I invited Bristol artist @LawiAnywar and his incredibly talented guitarist @samskeltonmusic into the studio for what turned out to be one of my favourite songwriting challenges yet.

Knowing Lawi is a huge Mars Volta fan, I challenged the pair to take inspiration from “Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus”—a sprawling 13-minute progressive rock masterpiece—and turn that inspiration into an original song in just three hours.

No rehearsals.
No preparation.
Just a ticking clock and a blank page.

The result? A ridiculously funky track packed with unexpected twists.

You honestly couldn’t script it.

Huge thanks to @humm_studios for hosting us, @mrconnorjones for engineering and mixing the session, and bishop
_hugo for capturing the day so beautifully.

🎬 Watch the full episode via the link in my bio.

I’d love to hear what you think of this one.

I’m not that good at taking pics but I got random tour mems. Wanna say thanks to everyone who came to a show while we were at large across this little island. It really does mean a lot, and we loved meeting some new faces and talking shit about premium English. Bristol folks, its not over. We’re supporting @sansfroid.band at their album launch this Saturday at @strange_brew_briz and we couldn’t be more flattered to be there. Don’t miss it cos @redsunalert will also be there from Cork.

Good morning, and happy Tuesday. Thanks to all who’ve listened to Bad Acting/Clyde and sent me cute messages! Salt of the earth, you. Just wanna remind you that tour begins next week (what the hell?), and it’s starting to look real juicy. @toothpaste.band decided to join us in London so that’s a huge amount of bang for your buck right there (it’s free). So come through. Leeds, Birmingham, London, Exeter, Falmouth, Bristol. I am watching you. You know where the link is.

Love, Lawi
