This is my outing from the @bodyhousedancesummit in Chicago this past weekend. This was the first battle I’ve qualified past prelims for and was an amazing experience for me. Much respect to @qron___ for this exchange. I want to compete at the highest level and this was that, ty. Deepest gratitude to @bravesoulmovement @jusbehouse @creativenetwerk @chicagodcase and all the absolutely legendary judges and DJs.

I’m pretty content with how I performed here given the (🔥) track and how I was feeling physically. I know where I want to dig and improve in my dance in this environment, what I want to be able to say and cultivate. Was really already a W for me just being up there.

What I was really jazzed on was just dancing around the cyphers and getting down in front of thousands of people on the same stage after. It was UP. Peak. Felt like I could keep a continuity of experience long enough to work with that by the time it was over something had shifted for me. Priceless experience.

As a result, I’m a bit tongue-tied to find the words for just how dope the weekend was. The energy, respect and love for house in Chicago is palpable in all the community I met and danced with, not just the dancers. The documentary and panel I got to be in the audience for, to learn more about the roots of house and emergence of Chicago footwork inside that—and my proximity to it the whole time I was there—have really deepened my awareness, understanding of the culture, and gratitude I feel for being able connect and express myself through this particular art form and music. It’s a supreme gift to be in these spaces where unity is realized.

Tysm for the workshops, the music, the movement, the celebration and all the hospitality.

And a huge thank you to my friend, soul sister n mentor @liliakalisali for putting me on to this event, and for all your support and guidance with my dance these past two years 🙏🏼

This my round from a few weeks ago. Big thank you to @divineessence_collective n all the judges for providing this opportunity here in Denver!

Ultimately a successful outing for me. My main goal was presence which I kept mentally, and even emotionally, but physically there was still rigidity, hesitation, fear, debris.

It is definitely very challenging for me to rewire this art form, my prayer, that has been so therapeutic, spiritual and paradoxically—very private—into a piece for evaluation. To contest it against a thing, anything.

But I love challenge, finding my courage. I love games. I’m now at a point in my journey where I consider it a great privilege to turn towards discomfort in myself. As hard as it can be at times, there is much laughter in this.

I’ve *attempted* to compete enough times now to realize that each time I do, I heal, and get to create a continuity of conversation with myself on display. The audience helps me see what is left of the wound.

Some are home at the clerb, others at the battle, same as how the spiritual makes sense to some people more than the material and vice versa.

To me, the battle makes absolutely no sense without the party, the same way life makes no sense without God. That’s been my work, this golden thread of unyielding joy. Otherwise the moment just becomes plastic, disconnected, fragile, tourism.

That being said: I really welcome the opportunity to expand in this format that has become so integral to the culture. To string together some more holy failures. I feel it’s where the next phase of work is with my dance, bridging heart to mind, contemplation to embodiment, gift to genius, fun to the floor.

Deepest bow to all my community, mirrors and mentors that help me grow. Ily, thank you.

my sweet friend @alyssa_troob asked me to jump in/ join her for a photo shoot she was doing the other week in the name of PLAY and I had just a superb time tySm 🫂🫂🫂

never taken photos / vids like that b4 but im pretty sure @petewillauer took the coolest ones I’ll ever take in me life so 🙏🏼🙏🏼🫡🤝🫶

There was a time where posting clips of myself dancing felt transformative. Now tbh it just feels diluted, deflated. Obv it’s a me thing. Not unimportant. Just not as necessary ? And yet I don’t like this clip of me dancing at all. A practice of imperfection. Something, some magic of authenticity is happening surely right? Hm.

I’ve seen a lot of posts from people recently saying posting is alchemy. I don’t have enough data to refute. I think the space you choose to be you in is important.

When it comes to house, other club styles, I think the greatest gift is to encourage others to get out and find it. Transmission is revealed through excavation.

Like this track. The track in this clip is probably one of the top ever to me and I had to dig for it. I caught it in a session, on a mix, and scoured. Last year when I was getting my ass handed to me I had this song on repeat. It hit the cells. It changed my DNA.

When too much is seen the mystery tastes flat. Too often we confuse familiarity with closeness. To be close to something is a privilege. Proximity only depends upon how open my heart is. But depth asks for a sacrifice.

I’m not past alchemy. Not past an identity. Nor past foolishness. I’m not an experienced battler or long time performer. But my presence is sacred. My freedom alive. My joy to be shared. Dancers are.

The question I think I’m remembering is, ok so there’s a clear way to be popular or liked.

But how do I become a myth? How do I become a code you can’t find? How do I ask questions whose answers will kill the idea of me again and again? Where does my paint need to dry?

Im supremely grateful for all my dance partners through the years. If you’re reading this as one of them, as a teacher or friend, know those conversations and explorations are absolutely everything to me. Ily.

so grateful for the dance scene in Denver at the moment there is something utterly special happening in the happening of celebration and community I consider myself to be very blessed to be a part of

every drop of sweat you shed on a dance floor contributes to a higher vehicle and continuous moment of love, unity, harmony

I realized today I have not posted any videos of myself dancing on here for about 6 months even though I’ve found myself dancing more than ever in that same time span

as I mature as an artist, I am constantly humbled by the continuous erasure of the illusory divide between my dance and my poetry

more and more and more it is all the same luminous vibrant thread and I am the needle

I too understand through that same epiphany quite deeply just how privileged I am to hold radical beliefs of beauty, becoming and transcendence which is why I find it such a responsibility to hold them so fiercely, especially in this moment as we decide to decorate our planet with atrocity — the paradox of all pragmatism

I believe humanity deserves nothing short of heaven as earth, divine justice, total presence, majestic liberation

my poems come from there, my dance speaks of there, my life is lived as testament to such I hope, this is my prayer

I think the world needs to see the frequency of truth in bodies not on screens, but in the flesh, that love is wild so you must brave the wilderness to witness it, find it, befriend it, you can’t just watch from the sidelines you gotta participate courageously in your own awakening

but I also see to graffiti polluted domains with joy is a noble cause indeed so

If you’ve been reading my poems ah just thank you so much I love you so so much - going forward I’ll be putting them on my Substack if you wanna follow me there

and letting my dance be more here instead
