POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Here we have Tyler and Sutton doing a joint lesson and working on shooting out of our roll. The focus here is getting the head around as we switch hands, finding our target, getting our body back towards the cage, and hitting our desired spot.

At Lax Teacher we offer private and semi-private lesson options. 2 person lessons are always a great option as it allows for more live play than a traditional private lesson. Spring is right around the corner, your success next season starts now. Book a lesson today!

COMBO DRILL: Here I have taken 2 great fundamental shooting drills (credit to @coachkylekutyla and @tplacrossetraining for the inspiration) which focus on feet and hand placement. When players learn to shoot, often times certain fundamentals can slip through cracks as the player focuses on the main purpose of the drill. The 3 cone step down drill teaches players proper foot mechanics in their step down, while the towel drill shows players if they have their hand extension correct or not. Combining the 2 allows players to have the main focus be their footwork, while also working on the hand placement and extension in relation to their body through said footwork and shot. This is a great drill for young players to begin to build consistent step down fundamentals.

Is your shot not as consistent as you want it? Do you feel you’re not getting enough heat on your shot? Come work with us today and start improving! The fall season is just around the corner! taken in Charlotte, North Carolina by @laxteacher

Here we have @stonestraeten working through a new footwork variation. This drill is great because it focuses on multidirectional movement while staying level. Commonly, what I see with young defensemen is they pop up and down as they change direction. This make changing direction more difficult, slows them down, and can ultimately lead to a bad approach on ball. He we are working on staying low through our back pedal, into opening our hips and not rising up as we approach back out.

Clips from this past week’s dodging work. Working on getting our shots of in an efficient number of steps. The goal for any on the run shot should be to get it off within 3 steps of coming out of your dodge. Many kids often take too many steps to get their shot off meaning the goalie is already set and tracking, the defender has got back up, or the slide is already there by the time they’re able to get a shot off. As you get older and the sport gets faster, the windows to score only gets smaller. The earlier a player learns to get their shot off in an efficient amount of steps, the faster they acclimate and excel as the rise through the stages of lacrosse.
