I learned how to bind using a Lyn Fury around 2008. In that era yoyos weren't universally unresponsive. Stock YoYoJams (and even some expensive metal yoyos) only came with lubed bearings. In order to play unresponsive you'd have to at least clean the bearing yourself, and then mess around with the gap and response pads. These days you don't need to do that anymore thank god 😅 These days stock bearings are already unresponsive, and you don't really have to clean them until they start to go bad. Beginner friendly yoyos include both responsive and unresponsive bearings so you can switch between them, but otherwise they're all perfect out of the box. Sheppard's design is very heavily influenced by two of my favourite YoYoJams - Lyn Fury and Kickside. It has the same size as Kickside, but the slightly angular shape of Lyn Fury. It comes with two bearings to switch responsiveness, but I still want it to feel like a YoYoJam with a high wall profile. In responsive mode a high wall helps with stalls. But in unresponsive mode a high wall is unforgiving to sloppy movements, which I find a little more endearing than yet another V or H shape competition machine. Layer Infinity - "Sheppard" I think this is the first yoyo I've made that's for everyone. So far Layer Infinity yoyos are either only for responsive or only for unresponsive. Sheppard is both. Diameter 56mm Width 39mm Weight 59g C sized bearing (both half-C and concave included) By default it has a lubed half-C bearing for responsive play, for those who are just learning to throw or into modern responsive. It also comes with a clean concave bearing for unresponsive play, for those who enjoy the fun of ripping through combos with a classic high wall profile. The 59g weight is a sweet spot for both setups. For responsive 59g is heavy and feels solid. "Last metre" yoyos When you use up each roll of 3D printing filament near the end you never use up everything exactly. There is always a little bit leftover, commonly known as the "last metre" of filament. Unless you really try to think of something small to print, there isn't much to do with just a few grams of leftovers. One thing you can do with last metres is to combine them into a bigger thing... and back in the day I actually hoarded a bunch of them thinking that maaaaybe one day I'd have the patience or idea to do something useful with them. So these two piles of rainbow vomit are the result of splicing a bunch of last metres together. They're spliced in-extruder: load a few grams of filament at a time, and let the out-of-filament detection handle the pausing. Just need to do the filament switching on every pause. Both yoyos are entirely PLA, but there are 6 years worth of different brands and "types" like high speed, matte, tough, pro, plus, or whatever that I didn't even keep track of. Unboxing my Layer Infinity order. 🎆 Many thanks, Wayne927, for the amazing surprises!! ❤️ I was planning to do a video, but it's hard to find quiet time with two little juggernauts running around. 😄 I made an order for a Pizza Klassm, a responsive bi-plastic yoyo with a machined polycarbonate body and printed caps. I love the classic feel of this one. It was so awesome of Wayne to print me a Red Pand cap. 🔥🔥🔥 The blue slim hybrid unresponsive yoyo is stunning! It doesn't have a name yet, but he has a write-up of it on his Instagram. Keep an eye out for these after Worlds. 😍 I love the shape of the yellow one. This one is also nameless. Meridion in 2026. When I first started 3D printing in 2021 I managed to make a funny-looking yoyo without using CAD software. What started as a very random attempt turned into an actual release called "Meridion" in 2022. In 2026 both yoyoing and 3D printing have come a long way, but Meridion's design is still rooted in my first 3D printed yoyo ever. And compared to the 2022 release, it's a MASSIVE upgrade: - A little bigger and heavier. The center weight from the finger spin cup from the 2022 version is now moved to the rims. It's more rim weighted, overall heavier, and also a little wider for better performance. - The bearing seat is now a pair of machined aluminum spacers, which are more reliable and durable than just plastic. The same spacers are also used in Zepheus. - The material is now in carbon fibre PETG which has an interesting aesthetic. It feels very rough in the hand (even rougher than some beadblasts on metal), but it's also slightly glossy. The "weaving" pattern along the edge is actually a facade, even though the material contains real carbon fibre.
