A note from my Israeli born inner child:
They’re screaming for an end
You’re angry
Someone hurt you
You can’t find them so you destroy everyone that could potentially have a correlation
You’re burning bridges and blinded by the fire you started
Bringing shame upon your children
We once had pride
You’re leaving marks that will never be forgotten
Nobody knows how to forgive eachother now
The separation is causing more separation
My brothers and sisters can’t even look at me
Their children are begging for mercy
They didn’t do anything wrong
My hands tremble at the thought of being a part of the problem
Where are all the adults?
We’re screaming for change
Is it just getting worse before it gets better?
I’m not okay with this
But I don’t want to cause anymore separation
All my tears are dried up
All that’s left to do is pray
We think if we all spoke up enough it’d make a difference but someone who doesn’t listen, just doesn’t listen.
Narcissistic laser trajectories and colonial vengeance causing catastrophic shifts
Our world is bleeding
She’s screaming
The land
The people
The love we once had for eachother
It all feels like it’s dying while some of us just get to smile on a mountaintop and pray for more life
When did our birthright become a privilege?
Death is half of it but it’s already inevitable. Please stop forcing nature. Trust her timing
Cut your losses. You’re only causing more death. It’s only making things worse. Don’t you see? How can you not see? It’s all right in front of you. It’s all around you
But you’re in the center
To admit your wrongs at this point would actually feel like suicide
Maybe fighting just keeps you safe from the fear that you’re wrong.
I dont know anything
But I pray for humanity
All beings, seen as one being.

I’ve noticed a handful of new folks here so I’m gonna take a moment to re-introduce myself

My name is Layv. 99% of the time I need to explain how to pronounce it. Don’t think too hard.
Lay-v
I like to express myself through the art of music. I’m a story singing, ceremonial soundscape nerd with deep roots in blues, folk and instrumental improvisation and a fierce passion for simplicity and slowness and figuring shit out on my own and creating art through the integration of life

Love, death, s€x, God, heartbreak and mountains and birds and breath and whatever else is beating through my chest
-these are my inspirations. My muses on both sides of the veil
I also produce my own music and build the west African harps you see me playing a lot on here (N’goni). ~Independent artist AF~

Fun fact- I get nervous in front of crowds and tend to make stupid jokes about my butthole while I settle into the moment.

One more thing- There’s a lot of talk around the term “medicine music”
I believe if the intention behind your music is to heal, that makes it medicine. I feel deeply, play moody blues and sing sad songs. But I pray that through them, you find freedom and healing in the sweet musical reminder that you’re not alone in your pain and there is beauty on the other side.

Thanks for bein here and followin me along this wild journey
I’m working on a lot of music I’m excited to share with the world

Nothing like sweet summer in October amiright? California is in a heatwave, so why not release a track that calls for more summer?? This Scottish- Irish tune has always held such a special place in my heart, and it’s an absolute joy to bring it to life in a one take wonder evening with @layvmusic 💚
I hope you hear the hawk cawing over the house as we sang. I truly think it wanted to be on the song. Also, there’s something about letting vocal imperfections live in a track and a take. I’m finding it liberating. also shout out to @straw.hat.cody for the mix thank you to all the people and places who’ve touched me so deeply in this wild mountain summer time…a wild summer it was. We played a concert….FOR DOGS 🐾

After noticing that our ambient music was all over the “Relaxing Music For Dogs” playlists, we decided to give our four legged friends the show they have been patiently waiting for.

A fully improvised ambient set with Kora, Ngoni, Synthesizers, Guitar, and 50+ dogs.

Once upon a time I sat in a circle with men who admitted to raping women in their youth as I watched tears of agony and regret rain from their faces.
They’ll suffer one way or another

They say time heals and it’s true in a way but time also scars. The memory lives in the body.
I can promise you that
But when the wound is fresh and the debt isn’t paid, the spirit of vengeance seeps through bones and boils blood

As a man who has been raised and surrounded by good women my entire life and taken advantage of by a man as an adult, I can’t comprehend how one would do such things. Gang rape. Treated as a sport.
One of the many things that drew me away from men growing up was the way they sexualized women in general. Every comment felt directed at my mother and sisters. I think that level of objectification (outside of a permissive/safe container) has rippled out to the point that it leads boys to do these things…not to say my mind is a perfect place. It can be filthy in there. But our words have more power when spoken

I wrote a song many years ago for a dear friend who shared her story with me when someone she thought loved her, raped her. The context in most of the song was that no matter how much time passes, how deeply we are loved by another, that wound will always be there. We’ll never be the same. And neither will the perpetrator. And it’s up to us as a collective to make a change…an essay? Most of me feels they deserve to suffer in prison with the guilt of such a disgusting act. It’s far too soon for any sort of forgiveness. We need to grieve and rage for the sake of justice.

Music has and always will be my chosen and god-given tool to play my part
I know what happened at Cornell university is different. But it’s also the same. And I dedicate this piece of a song to that innocent woman and the countless others. May she heal and find peace and may our governments open their eyes to the monster they feed with every constricted breath of complicity.

I talk a lot about our relationship to musical instruments and understanding where the materials come from.
Think about that the next time you pick up your guitar or whatever instrument it is. Reeeeeally think about it. The majority are made with exotic woods from ancient, sacred trees
