Big news! 🚨

After a massive 2025 and 5 and a bit years of operation Lazarus Lab is for sale! Whilst this is bittersweet caption to be writing, we are incredibly excited for someone to continue to provide a home for film photographers, both around the Gold Coast and Australia wide.

We cannot even begin to express our gratitude to all of our customers over the last 5 years. You’ve trusted us with your most precious moments - including births, deaths, marriages, and everything in between. Every day in the lab has been different. From being the first eyes to see an international fashion campaign, scanning someone’s first roll, editing archival film or curating a group show. It’s been nothing but a privilege and such a fun ride.

2026 has brought some exciting new prospects our way and with that comes the opportunity for someone else to take the reins. Thank you for your trust and all of the support.

Everything will be rolling as normal while we handle the sale behind the scenes. As we’ll still be busy processing your film, we kindly ask to only enquire if you have serious interest.

Ever wondered how your rolls of film actually get developed? For our latest episode of ‘Handmade’ @lazaruslab talk us through the process from their Gold Coast based film lab. No one goes into the film processing biz with the intention of making enough profits to purchase a yacht, they do it because they care about giving people back moments in the form of a photograph. For the love of it. And we love them for it. Plus they have to handle your nudes and continuously see amazing photographs ruined by a finger. Alt Major’s Looking Tapes, Mur’bah.

Our first community Photo Walk with @alt.major @ryanheywood @mqrgs @lazaruslab @lavaartsfestival Art deco shopfronts, cane country edges, borrowed light, and a crew of trigger-happy photographers loaded up on film.

Thirty people, two hours, plenty of rolls burned.

THIS WEEKS FLAVOUR IS A REAL TREAT
IN COLLABORATION WITH THE ONLY ACTUALLY GOOD FILM LAB ON THE GOLD COAST
ACTUALLY GOOD MATCHA X LAZARUS LAB

this one is so super sweet because this is actually the ORIGIN of where my shop began. on a thursday a couple months ago, i came into lazarus to drop off film with @ozukikomatsu .. while he filled out the paper work i was catching up with my angel friend @hotbokchoy i told her all about my new job at @apressurfbar & about the pop up matcha events i had recently done.. then morgan said.. “why don’t you just open up permanently inside the window at apres?” and i said “why didn’t i think of that” so then my brain started to dance and put all of the pieces together. i started thinking of menu items and layout and all the fun stuff i could do in that little window.. which now obviously is @actuallygoodmatcha

so in honour of the place that gave me the idea to open this shop.. this week i present to you LAZARUS’ LAVENDER MATCHA WITH SALTED HONEY COLD FOAM..
she’s fresh, luscious & delicious and she can’t wait to be inside of u!
she will be here thursday- saturday over the first weekend of july.

Customer feature: Sonny Witton - @mostlysonnys 🌟

Every now and then a large film drop will come through that commands our attention from start to finish. Sonny’s rolls from a trip through India, Nepal and Sri Lanka did just that.

With images spanning city street photography, portraiture, landscapes and observational moments, Sonny captured a mix of 35mm and 120 film in both colour and B&W. Unfortunately these were the final rolls for his trusted Canon EOS 5 that didn’t make it home.

We hope you all love this gallery as much as we loved processing this order, and believe us when we say selecting from these 44 rolls was no easy task. Thanks again to Sonny for graciously allowing us to share these and be sure check out his page - @mostlysonnys

Long time customer @gwencyphen always manages to provide us with a little escapism through her images.
After a long day on the scanner, approaching Gwen’s order in the queue is always a welcome exhale. We hope you feel the same way whilst browsing this tiny selection from her very large archive.

Some beautiful words from Gwen regarding her practice -
‘I take great inspiration from the natural world. I hope that through my work people feel that they are a part of nature, not separate from it. Ordinary things become beautifully poetic when we slow down to experience all nature has to give.’

It’s been a while between hard posts for us after an absolutely crazy start to 2024. Thanks for keeping us so busy I guess?
(But seriously, thank you!)

With temperatures finally dropping below 25 degrees here on the Gold Coast we’ve been reminded of some beautiful northern hemisphere shots from @drgeoffwilson .

Geoff snapped these after his net-zero odyssey @projectzero_earth aboard Nanook X, an entirely carbon neutral vessel powered by solar, hydro and wind power. This journey saw Geoff, his son Kitale - @kitalewilson - and his team traverse the Southern Ocean from Australia to Patagonia and onwards towards Antarctica documenting the effects of climate change on some of the most fragile and unforgiving environments on the planet.
Unsurprisingly, storms in the open ocean, -25 C temperatures and what Geoff describes as ‘unsurvivable polar hurricanes’ on the ice fields of Antarctica are not conducive to the slower pace required of medium format photography.

These were taken upon reuniting with his wife and family after the voyage. The frostier images were taken in Alberta Canada, Geoff describes Alberta as a ‘bleak land with tough people’ and coming from a polar explorer we think that says a whole lot. The last two warmer ones are taken in Joshua Tree NP, a favourite for film lovers the world over.

The truest joy of what we do at Laz is connecting with a wide range of people through their film, never knowing who or what will come through the door. There aren’t enough characters in an Instagram caption for Geoff’s accolades and we are honoured to know him through his film, but mostly as a friend.
