(𝚁𝚎)𝚝𝚞𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚘 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙶𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚁𝚘𝚘𝚖🟩
Meet the Artist|Ben Thorn

Ben Thorn is an artist and designer whose work explores virtual space as an interface for software musical instruments, focusing on alienation, obscurantism and the politics of aesthetics. Their practice also involves releasing and performing music under the alias [my grey leaving]

About the Exhibition:
(𝚁𝚎)𝚝𝚞𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚘 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙶𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚁𝚘𝚘𝚖 invites London-based artists engaged in the creation and research of non-human organisms and entities from a decentring, post-anthropocentric perspective to collectively construct a fictional extraterrestrial landscape. Situated within a decentred, post-anthropocentric framework, the project unfolds through a process of collective world-building grounded theoretically in queer ecology and dark ecology. Beginning with the artists’ existing works, the project extends into a discussion of the characteristics and habitats of the organisms they have created, using images, texts, and diagrams to sketch out the blueprint of this extraterrestrial terrain.

This exhibition is part of the London Burning Theatre Festival: As We All Lay Dying. Taking place at Hoxton Hall on 26–27 September, the two-day festival brings together three exhibitions on the first day, followed by a programme of performances on the second. All ticket sales revenue will go towards covering the venue and production costs.

1-7pm Sep 26, 2026
Hoxton Hall, 130 Hoxton St, London N1 6SH

A Forest of Wooden Antenna

‘A Forest of Wooden Antenna’ is a linear music composition created as a virtual environment.

The performance involves the performer/player walking along a path, acting as a virtual microphone that not only listens to the spacialised sound within the environment, but also records them into a sample buffer that reoccur as altered memories throughout the composition.

Earlier in March, BA Sound Arts Final Year student Evaneh and recent graduate Maria conducted a workshop at Pembroke Academy of Music in Walworth, an open access music project for around 50 children aged 7-14 in Walworth who would otherwise miss out on developing musical skills. They created scores with groups of children and made improvised electronic music with them. The children got to co-design of music with our Sound Arts student team and explore some of their equipment. PAM project manager Sally said “the children really enjoyed the workshop and were asking when we would get to do it again!”.
