This weekend I officially became the Program Director of the MFA in Illustration @hartfordartschool @universityofhartford ✨ I am beyond excited for this new chapter, and can’t wait for the extraordinary future of this incredible non-residency illustration program! There are so many exciting things on the horizon!

Big news from the Hartford Art School’s MFA in Illustration program.

This year brings a meaningful transition for our community. After many years of extraordinary leadership, mentorship, and artistic vision, Program Director C.F. Payne has announced that he will retire in summer 2026. We’re deeply grateful for the talent, heart, and guidance he has shared with generations of illustrators.

At the same time, we’re thrilled to share the exciting news that Leslie Cober will be serving as Guest Artist and Director of the MFA in Illustration program, effective in July 2026.

@lcgdesign is an award-winning illustrator, designer, curator, and educator whose work champions optimism, storytelling, and the power of visual communication. Her illustrations have appeared in countless global publications and international initiatives, and she currently serves as President of the Society of Illustrators in NYC. As an alum of our MFA program, she brings both a deep connection to our community and a bold, visionary approach to the field.

Her career spans teaching at FIT and Western Connecticut State University, curating major exhibitions, and inspiring students nationwide to “think out of the box” and develop their own distinct voices. Leslie’s leadership bridges art, education, and community—empowering artists to create expressive and meaningful work.

🐸 Hop on by! Join us on Thursday from 5:00pm-9:00pm for the opening reception of the 2026 Members' Open Ribbit: The Art of the Amphibian & Reptile.

Curated by President Leslie Cober @lcgdesign, this exhibition celebrates the fascinating world of amphibians & reptiles and their enduring place in art, folklore, literature, and visual storytelling.

During the reception, a jury will determine the winner of the Steven Dohanos Award.

We will also honor the recipient of the 2026 SI Impact Award, Rob Byrnes! Rob is the founding President of the @eastmidtownpartnership, a Business Improvement District covering 47 blocks of the East Side and Upper East Side.

This event is free and open to the public, no RSVP required.

Annually one of the best and most elegant nights of the year -celebrating the Society of Illustrators ✨Hall of Fame✨ inductions. Last night we honored Joe @joeciardiello to join a roster of 255 artists who represent the wonderful world of illustration. Norman Rockwell was the first Hall of Fame inductee in 1958. More great photos to come!🤍🥂

🐸 The 2026 Members' Open Exhibition RIBBIT: The Art of the Amphibian & Reptile is now open!

From whimsical storybook frogs to scientifically observed species, RIBBIT celebrates the fascinating world of amphibians & reptiles and their enduring place in art, folklore, literature, and visual storytelling.

For centuries, amphibians have leapt through myths, fairy tales, and illustration, symbolizing transformation, mystery, resilience, and renewal. Their remarkable journey between water and land has made them powerful visual metaphors, while their unusual forms, colors, and expressive personalities continue to captivate both artists and their audiences.

RIBBIT brings together the work of Society of Illustrators members, celebrating these extraordinary creatures through narrative, humor, imagination, observation, and artistic expression.
