‘Khirbet Susya (South Hebron Hills)’, ‘Khirbet Seilun (Tel Shiloh)’, ‘Wadi Hilweh (Silwan)’ and ‘Gaza Mosaic (Gaza City)’
Gal Amiram Gottlieb, The Fulcrum, Los Angeles, 2025, brochures, each unfolded 16x17”

Over the course of five years, I researched archaeological sites in the West Bank and East Jerusalem operated by Israeli settlers, examining how these sites are used to construct historical narratives and to facilitate the physical appropriation of Palestinian land. The process combined research across archives in Palestine, Israel, and the United States with fieldwork, including site photography and interviews with activists, archaeologists, and members of displaced communities.
The exhibition focused on artifacts and mosaics from four sites, and for each one I produced a publication that brought together archival materials and photographs taken on site. Initially conceived as supplemental material to provide context for the exhibition, the publications gradually became objects within the exhibition and were displayed on the gallery wall, functioning both as publications and as objects.

How did you come to produce (design, print, bind) the publication like you did?
I based the design on brochures I collected at the archaeological sites I researched, using the same visual language, including fonts, layout, and format, while replacing the imagery and text with my own material. The publications incorporate photographs and interviews I collected, along with my own text. We chose a commercial digital printer so the final result would closely resemble the brochures found at these sites. The brochures were designed by Ross McLain and produced by Josh Schaedel.

How was it distributed? Who did you imagine audiences being?
The brochures were distributed for free during the show, placed in an acrylic four-tier holder mounted on the gallery wall. While the audience was gallery visitors, the work may be displayed in other environments in the future. -Gal by @ldlibrarysupply
