It’s Earth Day, and we don’t always talk about environmental issues, but our project and community are part of a big shift in how we think about consumption—and we’re really proud of that.

Since we started LE NINETY, we’ve been saving clothes that would’ve just been tossed away. We’ve kept most of this behind the scenes, thinking it wasn’t glamorous enough to share. But now we realize — showing our journey is part of the change. The more people see the scale of the problem, the more likely they are to want to be part of the solution. We’re committed to curating pieces that already exist in the world—pieces with stories, character, and a lower environmental cost.

As you may know, fashion is one of the biggest contributors to climate change. It’s responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions. Every year, 100 billion garments are made, and most of them end up in landfills within months. Non-profits everywhere are sounding the alarm; yet many still choose to turn a blind eye to this very serious issue. If things keep going the way they are, those numbers could double by 2030.

The reality is simple: everything you need already exists. So, choose second-hand. by @le.ninety

Notre mission a toujours été la même : sauver le plus de vêtements possible de l'enfouissement et leur donner une seconde vie. Ce qu'on montre moins souvent, c'est tout ce qui se passe derrière le rideau avant qu'une pièce arrive jusqu'à vous.

La revalorisation fait partie intégrante de ce travail. Certaines des pièces que l’on déniche portent les marques du temps : un trou, une couture à reprendre, un bouton manquant. Plutôt que de les laisser de côté, on prend le temps de leur redonner ce qu'il leur faut pour vivre une seconde vie.

Cette partie de notre travail prend de plus en plus de place. Au printemps dernier, on a transformé plus d'une centaine de pantalons et de jeans en shorts, une façon parmi d'autres de voir le potentiel dans ce que d'autres auraient jeté.
