POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The Rep Cinema — that’s us— is back with Philippe Garrel’s Regular Lovers (2005), one of the best films of the early 21st century.

A love story set during the events of May ’68 in Paris and their immediate aftermath, featuring recreations of footage shot by Garrel himself during the riots, which was later lost.

An ode to lovers, poets, street wanderers and (failed) revolutionaries. Unmissable!

Saturday, 10 October, at 19:30

71(3f3) South Clerk Street

Free entry — all welcome! by @le_vangelis

We’re showing Godard's Contempt (1963) this Thursday night—hope to see you there!

The story of a deteriorating marriage in the midst of filming an adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey provides the impetus for Godard to hold up a mirror to modernity and to the art of filmmaking itself. But instead of a transparent image of an organic whole, we find ourselves (beyond the apparent linearity of the narrative) into a world of fragments. The film uses the ancient fable of the Odyssey as a distant echo of a world sustained by its moral values where final order is restored. Yet in its modern counterpart the Gods are silent and a final closure is far from sight (as it symbolically ends with the filming of a scene from the film within the film described as ‘Ulysses Gaze’ where Ithaca as a synecdoche for homecoming is substituted by an image of the open sea). In the film one feels as if the world is subject to a superhuman conscience, adding weight to the images as they unfold; yet ultimately, it is the conscience of the images themselves, acting upon one another, that becomes the true protagonist of a filmic architecture that is at once beautiful, poignant, and profound. Delerue’s music could not come closer to elevating the film toward what we have come to imagine and describe as “eternal.” taken in Edinburgh, Scotland by @le_vangelis

The Rep Cinema presents: The Colours of Iris (1974) by Nikos Panayotopoulos.

A film crew on a beach is shooting a commercial when suddenly a guy with an umbrella enters the frame and mysteriously disappears into the sea. A musician from the film crew sets out to investigate what happened and in his quest the borders between reality and fiction begin to merge.

(Featuring a visit to a record store, which is rare for film and always a treat where the cameo appearance of an actual musician is enough for the soundtrack to burst into one of his songs - an allegory and a tribute to Che - while he stands immobile, no words coming out of his mouth).

Join us on Thursday (12/2) at 20.00 for a trip into the absurd universe of Nikos Panayotopoulos, a prime figure of the Greek New Wave in the seventies and a key influence for the Greek weird wave that took cinemas by storm some thirty years later.

* if for no other reason one should come for the poster alone, which is the main reason why I’m making this post. It is so beautiful and also refuses to fit neatly into social media aspect ratios lending truth to the saying: they don’t make them like they used to. x by @le_vangelis

A film set inside a nuclear bunker screened inside a nuclear bunker. How Meta of us. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to experience the times of post apocalyptic leisure, now. And although films like ‘Some like it hot’ will most probably be higher on popular demand it is never a good idea to slavishly imitate the future.
Also, folk who run the space offered to take us on a tour around the vaults for the price of a fiver. I’m going! Film screening is free as per usual. More info about how to get there at www.barntombunker.com by @le_vangelis

After a successful series of gigs held exclusively for my living room plants, I decided that time is ripe for me to perform in front of a different audience. After very careful consideration I went for a human audience although sea turtles were a strong candidate too. Sooo, on Sunday the 30th of March ‘Fresh after Death’ presents a night of experimental folk split between three acts. The event is held at the Waverley bar upstairs and it’s gonna be fun. I’m going to be performing a medley of Cretan and Asia Minor themes before I indulge in some drony, atmospheric and noisy stuff for which my dear friend @gowentgong, who so kindly accepted my invitation, will also be joining me on stage before I bugger off and let the wonderful @housekindmusic lead you through the rest of the evening. Finally, many thanks to @raiments_music who hits the stage first for organising this beautiful event and to @terome.mcnally for the great poster! by @le_vangelis

After six wonderful years my last show for @ehfm_live is on at 14.00 U.K. time. Not an easy decision but, hey. As the song says ‘we enjoyed, we had fun’ (and if we actually had a few more seasons in the sun I wouldn’t mind but we are in Scotland).
Oscar speech loading: I would like to grasp the opportunity to thank the people at the station (@saintsundayy @club_medi @feena_mmm) for having me on board (guys you were wonderful!) all those who acted as producers (whom I cannot tag cause we are not connected but I’ll tag you @scottmoore2, @marigoualas) and all of you listeners for tuning in through the years and making me feel what I’m doing is totally worth it. See you all out there. ❤️ by @le_vangelis

Me and the Devil | Friday April 12th
Me and the Devil have been rocking the scene for an eternity, known far and wide for their oddball style and eclectic mixes. Their repertoire spans a full spectrum, from disco to boogie to post-punk and back. Occasionally, spotted lounging in Paradise, nestled amongst the palm, watch out for falling coconuts!

Me and the Devil | Saturday 13th January

Me and the Devil have been on the scene for longer than either of us can remember. We are known for our oddball style and eclectic mixes which cover a wide array of music from disco, boogie, post punk and the likes. We don’t really do church music unless we find a good remix. We sometimes hang out in Paradise among Palms. Beware of the 🥥. taken in Paradise Palms by @le_vangelis

Unfortunately due to travel disruptions and trains cancellations I won’t be able to be at @sneakypetesclub

No worries tho! @leasingmyhorse will be joined by his partner in crime, long time member of the capital scene and EHFM resident @le_vangelis

I’m gutted to miss this one but I know that Club Mediterraneo is in excellent hands!
