POSTS STORIES REELS
it took me a while to decide if i wanted to post about this, but if i even help one person understand the illness more then it’s worth it… so here’s something lil i wrote for #severemeday and #meawarenessweek (feat some pics from good days, where what seem like innocent pictures, have actually captured some of my lesser symptoms) online me isn’t me, maybe not even 1% of me. People who have never met me will see me standing, smiling, out and about and probably be a lil confused... but most of that is a lie.. and when it isn’t, what they don’t see is the aftermath.. the days of being bedbound, unable to move, eat, shower, open my eyes. social media is already out of touch with reality.. mine just a little extra, my reality is dark rooms, pain and constant fatigue.. but there’s nothing glamorous about that to post. If you have met me at all outside of my bed over the last year, chances are i’ve been in my wheelchair, too tired to form a solid conversation, crying of pain, asleep on someone’s couch or ridiculously jacked up on pain meds.. but even that’s rare, i’m mostly confined to the same mattress and pillows in a closed off room with the blackout blinds down. this isn’t a sob story, i’ve accepted my reality and my illness…this is just to raise awareness, 25% of us living with M.E. have severe M.E. leaving us bedbound and mostly unconscious, suffering in silence. even if you have heard of M.E before, it’s likely been in a jokey manner.. saying it’s not real, or an excuse to be lazy (talking about you @rickygervais ) but our reality is not something we wish upon ourselves, our reality is losing friends, our reality is loneliness and sombre, our reality kills people slowly, our reality isn’t chosen laziness. this isn’t a choice, and if i was given one i’d go right back to the girl i was before M.E. #myalgicencephalomyelitis #myalgicencephalomyelitisawareness #chronicillness #chronicpain #meawareness by @leahellerby
