Finding some much needed inspiration at the botanical gardens over the weekend and got to spend time wandering with my beautiful girl — so thankful that we share a love of nature and art 🌳💕

Recharging in the beautiful sunshine. There’s nothing like fresh air, sunshine and a different environment to feel reenergised.

“Every now and then go away and have a little relaxation. To remain constantly at work will diminish your judgement. Go some distance away, because work will be in perspective and lack of harmony is more readily seen.” —Leonardo da Vinci

Really enjoying drawing in graphite again lately. I started this eye in last weekend’s workshop ✍️

Danielle walked us through the steps with so much patience, especially for a perfectionist like myself. Really happy with how this turned out.

Visiting West End Village for an orthodontist appointment and found what feels like a another world. The old Peter’s Ice Cream Factory, built in 1928, the cornerstone of this historic little hideaway. So beautiful and such a great vibe. Fresh fruit markets, top notch boutiques and I even found my favourite plant shop, All the Green Things moved in here. I can totally see why the ortho moved here.

Some of the cute handmade earrings my daughter made for her Aunty @danacoe_ . I love that she embraces her creativity. Oh to be 15 again! I had so much fun bringing this together and showcasing her beautiful earrings with complimentary packaging.

A few weeks back, I won a fabric remnants box from @nextstateprint who are looking to sell them to crafters like me to reduce the amount of fabric that ends up in landfill. I’m always on the lookout for ways to become more #ecoconscious and those who know me well know I hate throwing things out (because they will find their way into my next project for sure) 😬
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I carved up my drawing of a peach onto a speedball block for this cute project and printed directly onto the gorgeous natural textured canvas fabric that #nextstateprint had gifted me. I ended up making a prototype tiny drawstring bag for my daughter’s new business venture @whispering_peach

I’m trying hard to incorporate drawing into my daily routine, so you might see a few more unfinished sketches here for a while.

I’m in the middle of reading Atomic Habits, which talks about the science behind building habits. I know I waste so much time thinking about doing something instead of actually doing it, and want to work out why I do that and how I can be more productive. I’m interested to hear if anyone had any big breakthroughs after reading it?

Making art has always been a big part of my life, but when it came to drawing, I was so stuck. My high school art teacher told me my art sucked, which kinda messed with my head all these years. Last year I decided to change that into a positive, and started teaching myself to draw through books and eventually had the courage to sign up to a local art class. Hands down it’s been the most fun I’ve had in ages, and I’ve met some awesome artists (who I now call friends), along the way. This drawing is one of my first ‘real’ drawings in my healing/learning journey.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m sharing because I know I’m not the only one who feels their work isn’t good enough to share, or they are ‘stuck’ in their heads. Just know you are good enough. Your art is good enough. Art is so subjective and those who love it will gravitate towards you and those who don’t, will spiral away. Don’t let that discourage you from picking up a pencil or sharing your creation. You can’t control what other people think of your creations, but you can control how you let it affect you. If you love making art, keep creating and keep sharing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Please note: I’ve drawn this while learning tonal variation from the book (How to draw what you see, by Rudy de Reyna) it is not my own original creation.

This is what calm looks like for me. What’s your favourite way to de-stress when you’re feeling overwhelmed by life and all that’s going on around you?

Sometimes you find something beautiful by chance. It was there all along, you just never took the time to really look and take in all its beauty.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve been considering replacing a heap of messy palms in our backyard with heliconias as a fencing screen. As I was researching different types, and wandering through the botanical gardens the other day, I came across this beauty. I’ve fallen in love with the shape and colour of their beautiful flowers and so tried to capture it here.
