I’m not your beige girl…

I love colour.

I love tiny details.

I love seeing every little watercolour mark.

And I REALLY love beautiful paper.

Hand signed by me.

Embossed by me.

Printed on the most beautiful textured fine art paper.

And only 100 of each size will ever exist.

Because if you’re going to put art on your walls…
it should make you feel something. 🩵

There’s a reason I’m so particular about how my artwork is reproduced.

I never wanted my prints to feel like a cheaper version of the original.

I wanted them to feel like beautiful pieces of art in their own right.

Every artwork is professionally scanned and carefully colour matched to capture as much of the richness, detail and beautiful watercolour marks of my original artwork as possible.

My canvas prints are made using premium archival quality canvas with UV protection, so they’re made to last, not to be replaced when the next trend comes along.

They arrive beautifully framed and ready to hang straight on your wall.

And only 100 of each artwork will ever be made.

I love that limited edition prints make my work more accessible to people who may not have the budget for an original, while still creating something that feels considered, special and made to be kept.

Because in a world where so much is mass produced and disposable, I want my art to be the opposite.

Something you fall in love with, bring into your home and hopefully still love many years from now. 🩵

New works are coming! 🎨

I’ve been spending a lot more time in the studio painting lately, which, surprisingly, is something I get to do the least as a full time artist!

There’s always something pulling me away from the paintbrush. Orders to pack and ship, emails to reply to, quotes to send, prints to sign and emboss, and of course, keeping up with socials so you all know I’m still here 🙋‍♀️

Running a small art business means wearing a lot of hats, and sometimes the actual creating gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

But lately, I’ve been making more room for it, and gosh, I’ve loved every minute.

Getting completely lost in a painting, adding all the little details, making hundreds of creative decisions along the way and watching each piece slowly come to life. It’s reminded me just how much I love this part of what I do. 🩵

I’ll be unveiling a collection of new original works with @solgalleryspace at the Affordable Art Fair Sydney, November 5-8.

As always, my mailing list subscribers will get first access to the new works 24 hours before they’re released to the public.

So if you’ve been patiently waiting to see what’s coming off my easel, my mailing list is the place to be!

You can join via the link in my bio. 💌

Now, back to the painting! 🎨 by @leahsmark_illustration

✨ FINALIST ✨

I’m so honoured to share that ‘Where the Light Dances’ has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Southern Ocean Art Prize @southernoceanartprize

To have this piece selected amongst so many entries from artists across Australia feels incredibly special, particularly because this artwork captures a place and feeling so close to my heart.

‘Where the Light Dances’ is my love letter to Fairy Bower, one of Manly’s most magical corners and a place where the ocean, sunlight and stillness meet.

For those who feel most at home by the sea, there’s something about slipping beneath the surface that makes the rest of the world disappear. Everything becomes quieter. Your breath slows. Light dances across the water and, for a moment, there’s nowhere else you need to be.

That is the feeling I wanted to capture in this piece. A little window into the ocean and that sense of escape, freedom and calm that I hope you can feel every time you look at it.

It’s such an honour to see Where the Light Dances recognised in this way. 🩵 taken in Fairy Bower Beach by @leahsmark_illustration

A little behind the scenes of what goes into all those tiny details 🌴

Because watercolour is transparent, I can’t simply paint the background first and then add all those palm fronds over the top.

Instead, I carefully paint around every individual frond, preserving those tiny spaces as I go. If I didn’t, the colours wouldn’t pop and everything would start blending together into one big brown mess 😂

It’s definitely a slow process, but I think all those tiny details are part of what makes the finished piece so special 🩵

3 days to go! 🩵

This weekend you’ll find me at @bigdesignmarket at Carriageworks with so many new hand painted watercolour prints to share with you all.

Each artwork is part of a limited edition collection, making it that little bit more special to own. I absolutely love seeing which pieces you connect with and knowing they’ll be making their way onto your walls at home 🥹

And because apparently I like to be in two places at once 🤪 I’ll also have a stand at @manlymarkets2095 on the beachfront for the Manly Jazz Festival, where @nickru77ell has very kindly stepped in to hold the fort for me ☺️

A big weekend of art ahead. Come and say hi! 🩵 by @leahsmark_illustration

I think this might be my favourite part of being an artist 🥹

An hour ago, I popped into @gusto_on_the_beach to put the artwork tags underneath my pieces, and while I was there, I happened to witness two people discovering my work.

I could see their reaction to my work ‘Flow State’ straight away, so of course I couldn’t help myself and told them I was the artist 😂

We started chatting about the pieces, the little details they had noticed and what it made them feel.

And I just had this moment of thinking… this is it.

So much of being an artist happens alone. Hours in the studio painting tiny details, trying to capture a place, a feeling or a moment and hoping that somehow, when it leaves my hands, someone else will feel something too.

Getting to see that connection happen right in front of me today was so incredibly special.

To see someone’s face light up because of something I created. To hear what they noticed. What they connected with. What made them stop and look a little longer.

I don’t think that feeling will ever get old.

Creating art is incredibly special, but seeing it connect with another human in real life?

I think that might just be my favourite part of being an artist. 🥹🩵 taken in Dee Why Beach by @leahsmark_illustration
