💫Pediatric PT’s have some pretty nifty tricks up their sleeves!🟢Juliana wanted our kiddo to work on half kneel with proper alignment of his hip and knee. How creative was she to utilize that green circle to keep his right leg in proper alignment?❓For our fellow pediatric PT’s, OT’s, and SLP’s… what are your favorite tricks of the trade? #niftytrick #howwillimakethiswork #makeitwork #creativept #pediatricpt #pediatricphysicaltherapist #pedipt #pediptlife #halfkneel #grossmotorskillsdevelopment by @leapsandboundspt

POV: You’re a Pediatric Physical Therapist walking into the gym. 👀What looks like a room full of toys and equipment is actually filled with opportunities for growth.A swing becomes vestibular input, balance, and postural control.Stairs become strength, coordination, and independence.A crash pad becomes motor planning and body awareness.Every activity has a purpose. Every challenge has a goal.Behind every game is clinical reasoning designed to help your child move, play, and participate more confidently in everyday life.✨ Therapy should be fun, but it’s never “just playing.”What piece of equipment have you always wondered about? Drop it in the comments, and we’ll explain exactly what we’re working on! 👇#POV #pediatricphysicaltherapy #grossmotorskills by @leapsandboundspt

❓As a parent, it’s completely okay to ask questions during your child’s therapy journey. In fact, we encourage it.💚You are an important part of your child’s therapy team, and understanding the plan of care helps you support progress long after the therapy session ends.✨Here are a few great questions to ask at your next visit:✨ How are we measuring progress?✨ What can we work on at home?✨ What’s the biggest challenge right now?✨ What skills should I be seeing outside of therapy?✨ Are there other strategies or approaches we should consider?Every child progresses at their own pace, but you should always feel informed about your child’s goals, accomplishments, and next steps.🎉The best outcomes happen when therapists and families work together. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, celebrate the wins, and be an active part of the journey. 😊Have you ever wondered what to ask during therapy? Let us know in the comments!#helpmehelpyou #dontbeafraidtoask #welovequestions by @leapsandboundspt

Leveling up vestibular therapy - one swing at a time!🧜‍♀️💙In today’s session, we’re working on the Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex (VOR) while our little friend is in a tall kneeling position on a platform swing. As she gently rocks side to side and forward and backward, her goal is to keep her eyes focused on The Little Mermaid playing in front of her.❓So, what is the VOR?👀 The Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex (VOR) is a reflex that helps keep your vision clear and stable while your head is moving. It allows your eyes to stay locked on a target, making everyday activities like walking, running, reading, and playing much easier.VOR training can help improve: ✨ Gaze stability ✨ Balance and postural control ✨ Coordination between the eyes and vestibular system ✨ Body awareness ✨ Tolerance to movementThe tall kneeling position adds another layer of challenge by strengthening the core, improving hip stability, and encouraging postural control while the body moves in multiple directions.Pediatric therapy is all about making meaningful progress through fun, engaging activities…and sometimes that means a swing and a favorite Disney movie!#vor #pediatricphysicaltherapy #grossmotorskills by @leapsandboundspt

👣 Flat feet in kids: When should you worry? One of the most common questions parents ask is: “My child has flat feet. Do they need treatment?”The answer depends on whether the flat foot is functional (flexible) or structural (rigid).💚Functional (Flexible) Flat Foot This is the most common type in children. The arch appears flattened when standing, but reappears when your child stands on their tiptoes or when their feet are off the ground. In many cases, flexible flat feet are a normal part of development and do not require treatment if your child is: ✅ Pain-free ✅ Keeping up with peers ✅ Not experiencing frequent falls or fatigue💚Structural (Rigid) Flat Foot With a rigid flat foot, the arch remains absent regardless of position, and the foot may have limited mobility. This type is less common and may be associated with underlying bone or joint differences.Signs that warrant further evaluation include: ⚠️ Pain in the feet, ankles, or legs ⚠️ Stiffness or limited foot motion ⚠️ Frequent tripping or difficulty keeping up with activities ⚠️ One foot looking significantly different from the other👣 Treatment isn’t based on how the foot looks—it’s based on how the foot functions. If a child is experiencing pain, fatigue, balance challenges, gait abnormalities, or difficulty participating in daily activities, a PT evaluation can help determine whether strengthening, mobility work, orthotics, or other interventions may be beneficial.💌 Flat feet don’t always require treatment, but knowing when to seek help matters. If you have questions about your child’s foot development, gait, or balance, reach out to our team. Save this post and share it with another parent who may find it helpful! 👣 by @leapsandboundspt

❓Did you know that balance training can help children with functional flat feet? 👣This tandem balance activity challenges the foot, ankle, and hip muscles to work together to maintain stability. When kids practice balancing, they’re building the control and coordination needed to support their feet during everyday activities.Try it:• Heel-to-toe position• Hold for several seconds• Progress by walking slowly along a line or balance beamBalance isn’t just about staying upright, it’s about teaching the body how to respond and stabilize from the ground up.#Pediatricpt #grossmotorskills #statenislandpt by @leapsandboundspt

After learning about functional flat feet, here’s a simple exercise you can try at home! 👣Picking up small objects with the toes helps strengthen the intrinsic foot muscles (the small muscles inside the foot) that contribute to arch support and foot control.Try using:Small toys (like Squigs!)SocksPom-pomsCoinMake it a game and see how many items your child can move from one spot to another!Strong feet help provide a stable foundation for walking, running, jumping, and play.#intrinsicmuscles #pediatricphysicaltherapy #grossmotorskills by @leapsandboundspt

Functional flat feet often benefit from exercises that strengthen the muscles supporting the arch. 👣Try heel raises with a small ball or squishie between the heels! Squeezing the ball encourages activation of the muscles that help position the feet and ankles while strengthening the calves.💡Tips:• Keep gentle pressure on the ball throughout the movement• Rise slowly onto your toes• Lower with controlRemember: the goal isn’t to create a perfect arch overnight—it’s to build strength, stability, and better foot control over time.#pediatricphysicaltherapy #functionalflatfeet #grossmotorskills by @leapsandboundspt
