Went for a walk at Bondi to see @sculpturebythesea .

One artwork really stayed with me “Sweethearts” by Flim Flam Studios. It’s 60 headstones, each one with words from women in the community, shelter staff, survivors and men’s groups.

Each headstone brings up a hard but important conversation about how violence against women is often minimised or dismissed.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, more than 1 in 4 women in Australia since the age of 15 have experienced family and domestic violence.

This visit was a reminder to me. Sometimes we may not fully understand what someone is going through, but it is so important to listen and acknowledge their concerns. by @learning_unlearning_journey

🦟 Protect yourself and your community from Mosquito-Borne Diseases🦟

Mosquitoes can spread serious diseases such as Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus, Japanese encephalitis, Murray Valley encephalitis, and dengue (in some parts of Australia). Overseas, mosquitoes can also transmit malaria, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever.

Protect yourself by:
•Wearing long-sleeved, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing
• Using mosquito repellent
• Installing flyscreens and using bed nets when needed
• Avoiding areas with high mosquito activity

Stop mosquitoes breeding around your home:
• Remove standing water from buckets, tyres, pots, and containers
• Clean pet bowls and water features regularly
• Cover rainwater tanks with mosquito-proof mesh
• Keep gutters clean and lawns maintained

Prevention is simple, effective, and everyone has a role to play in breaking the cycle of disease transmission.

Note: First image is to highlight the importance of mosquito surveillance. Which helps track mosquito populations and detect viruses they may carry.

I am incredibly grateful to be part of this project focused on understanding barriers to childhood immunisation. We have come a full circle, from the early days of writing the ethics application to finally sharing what we learned with key stakeholders. We have co-designed innovative dissemination methods by utilising new qualitative tools to dig deeper into existing barriers to childhood immunisation.

Excited to share my latest publication: “A Systematic Review of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviour Towards Japanese Encephalitis Vaccination”, published in Vaccine.

This review highlights key barriers to JE vaccination and the critical role of health professionals and vaccine advocates in improving uptake.

My takeaways from the SSPH talks: Effective pandemic management requires transparently sharing facts and unknowns to empower community choices. We must critically evaluate information and build domestic evidence rather than relying solely on other countries. This localized approach is essential for confident decision-making during times of uncertainty.
