#doejeedding

This is a drawing I’m really proud of! 🥰 I was SO nervous about using the acrylic markers after finishing the colored pencil work… but I have absolutely zero regrets haha! 😂

Swipe to photo 2 to see the drawing without the markers, and photo 1 for the final result with the markers. ✨

I really love that @napicreations_ offers these kinds of mini courses. And it’s even more awesome that they teamed up with @j.colordrawingz_ for this one, because it was so clear, fun, and enjoyable to follow along with! 💕

Definitely recommend giving it a try! ✨

Today I joined the livestream hosted by @nsaliha and organized by @becreativeshop_nl & @fabercastellnederland to test out the new set of 20 Polychromos pencils!

Unfortunately, I don’t have the new pencils in my hands yet, so I joined in using my own old pencils instead. Later, I’m going to rewatch the livestream and do it all over again once I actually have the new pencils! 🥰

I had a little trouble keeping up with Nicky’s fast pace at times, so there are a few messy little mistakes here and there (the hands holding the heart, the size of the eyes...)😅
But all in all, I think it turned out pretty cute! 💕

Thank you for the fun livestream! I think I’ll come back to this drawing later and turn it into a card for someone. 💌

For this one, I finally bought some acrylic markers! I’ve been getting so excited about all the acrylic marker tutorials I’ve been seeing that I just had to try them for myself. 😂🎨

Since I was a little nervous about drawing with markers, I wasn’t quite sure what to make with them. So I decided to start with a nice, simple tutorial using no more than two colors. I chose a tutorial by @becajover and used it as my first real practice.

And wow… that really helped! I ended up drawing three little tigers, and I can definitely see that one turned out better than the other two, haha. 🐯😂

So yes, I still have a lot to learn and need plenty of practice to get used to working with acrylic markers, but I’m already getting so excited about the possibilities. They really open up a whole new way of drawing!
Meanwhile, I’m also still working on a colored pencil drawing that’s almost finished. But this little acrylic marker experiment came along, and I just couldn’t wait to try it. 😅

For this drawing, I wanted to make something for a friend who recently became a mom. I’m planning to write something on the back, so it’s going to serve as a little handmade card. 🤍

I chose a little gosling because she decorated the nursery and the birth announcement with little geese. Since I always associate geese with water and rain, the idea for the text came quite naturally: “It’s been raining love ever since you arrived!” 🥹☔️

For the drawing itself, I looked for some inspiration on Pinterest and came across an adorable little gosling wearing a rain poncho from brightercraft.com. I loved the idea and used it as inspiration for my own drawing.

I wasn’t completely happy with how the “Welcome Thomas” turned out — I feel like the lettering could have been a lot prettier. But I added a little detail with a fineliner, which gave it a fun effect, and I’m actually okay with it now. 😊

The drawing itself turned out exactly how I had imagined it, so I’m really happy with that!

I hope my friend will like this little handmade extra that comes with the baby gift. 🥰🪿💛

For this sketchbook drawing, I decided to follow a tutorial using acrylic markers. The only problem? I don’t actually own any acrylic markers! 😂 Since I’ve mainly been working with colored pencils, I thought I’d give it a try with the materials I do have.

The tutorial I followed was by @chutchitart
What a fun and enjoyable tutorial! Halfway through (see photo 3), I honestly thought it was going to be a complete disaster. But this was definitely a case of trust the process.
And now… it’s actually my favorite little artwork in my sketchbook so far. 🥹✨

I did consider adding a blue background, but since I haven’t really practiced backgrounds yet, I didn’t dare to. I was worried I might ruin the whole thing, so for now, I decided to leave it as it is. Maybe someday, once I’ve learned and practiced a bit more, I’ll come back to this page and add the background after all.

I’m also starting to notice the limitations of my current colored pencil set when it comes to having enough shades to choose from. So before I can experiment much more, I’ll probably need to invest in a larger, more extensive set of colored pencils. ✏️

Oh, and I’m now also very tempted to buy some acrylic markers, hehe! I have absolutely no idea what it’s like to draw with them, though, so I’m going to do a little research first. And who knows… maybe I’ll end up discovering a whole new technique that I love. 😉🎨

For this one, I started by drawing a dachshund. Once the dog was finished, though, the page felt very empty. There was just this little dog sitting there, and honestly, I had no idea where I wanted to take the drawing.

Then, when it was my husband’s birthday, I decided to continue the page and added a little party hat and some balloons. I was actually inspired by TK Maxx, where, for some random reason, I always seem to come across birthday cards featuring dachshunds. 😂

Today, I finally added the text, and the page feels festive and complete at last. 🎈🥳

There is one little pencil mark on the page that I just couldn’t erase, though. Shout-out to my little boy for that one, haha. 😂

I think the result looks fun, even though I had absolutely no plan for it when I started. Sometimes you just have to let a drawing evolve as you go. ✏️✨

For this drawing, I wanted to use the same technique as I had used for the flower I previously drew twice by following a tutorial. This time, however, I wanted to try it without a tutorial and use only another artwork as my reference.

So I went searching on Pinterest for a beautiful flower that caught my eye and would give me the opportunity to experiment with blending my colored pencils and see if I could get the colors to blend the way I wanted.

I came across a watercolor painting by @siam_the_artist that immediately caught my attention, so I decided to recreate it using my colored pencils.

The proportions are definitely off, and it’s nowhere near as magical or beautiful as the original I used as my reference. But it was a great exercise, a good starting point, and I’m pretty happy with the result. 🌸

Every drawing is another little step in figuring out what my pencils can do — and what I can do with them. ✏️✨

For this drawing, I went back to the style I used for drawing #4 in my sketchbook, but this time I used a photo as a reference.

Once again, I decided to keep it to just two colors: one for the heart that fills the background, and the other inspired by the color of my little boy’s overalls. I then used that same orange color to add a few extra details to the drawing.

And honestly… I’m really proud of how this one turned out! 🧡

It’s so much to experiment with keeping things simple while still making them feel personal.

For my fifth sketchbook drawing, I decided to try something completely different: Pokémon! ⚡️

I was inspired by @frogscaffe, who is creating a beautiful Pokédex sketchbook...
When our little boy was born, we used Pichu on his birth announcement board, which is a Dutch tradition (2nd photo). So naturally, I wanted to draw Pichu. 💛

I went on Amazon looking for an official Pokémon book that teaches you how to draw Pokémon (How to Draw Pokemon by Tracey West). By coincidence, someone in the comments had posted a photo of the page featuring Pichu, so I decided to give it a try!

The page felt a little empty to me, so I turned it into a sort of mini Pokédex page by adding Pikachu and Raichu as well. For those, I used the step-by-step tutorials from coolkiddoodles.com, which worked really well.

Once again, it’s far from perfect, but it was really fun to draw something completely different. And who knows… maybe once I get better at drawing, I’ll make a full Pokédex sketchbook of my own someday. ❤️🖤🤍

For my fourth drawing, I decided to draw completely from memory and simply from what I felt. I kept it very simple, so the proportions are far from perfect. I was thinking about my little boy and me sharing an intimate moment during feeding, and I imagined what that moment might look like. Somehow, this drawing came from that thought.

Because the drawing felt a little bare, I decided to add a heart to bring in some warmth and love. I then added a second color through the blanket and text to give it a little more color.

I’m actually really happy with how it turned out, even though I can clearly see that it’s far from perfect. And honestly, that’s okay. I’m enjoying the process of learning and creating something that feels personal to me.

I think I’d love to make more of these simple drawings of our family. Next time, I’m planning to keep a photo nearby as a reference and see how that changes the result. 🤍

For my third drawing, I chose to recreate the second one, but this time I used different colors than the ones shown in the tutorial I followed. I also wanted to make the flower smaller and rely less on the steps from the tutorial. Once again, I’m happy with the result, although I personally think the previous one turned out just a little better.
