Just a little look at what our geography studies have looked like lately!

We’ve been traveling the world from our homeschool table, one country at a time. Lots of books, maps, crafts, and probably more projects than necessary 😂

But the boys are loving it, and so am I! There’s just something about bringing what we’re learning to life that makes it all stick.

One wall, endless possibilities.

We’ve always wanted a big whiteboard in our homeschool room, but we just didn’t have the space for a rolling one.

The Playwall from @cherrypick has been the perfect solution! From spelling and math to magnetic tiles and creative play, it’s become one of the most-used spots in our home.

I love that it doesn’t take up any floor space and that all three boys can use it in their own way.

Learning, playing, and creating all in one little corner of our home.

Geography, but make it hands on.

We’re studying Italy, so naturally we had to make our own Leaning Towers of Pisa. Cardboard tubes, air dry clay, paint, and a little mini version of themselves pushing the tower over.

They thought being the reason Pisa was leaning was absolutely hilarious. And of course the toddler had to be included, because when he’s not, he’s usually trying to be. 🤪

Our first assigned read of the school year is officially finished! 📚

Each month, my 3rd grader has a book to read independently, and once he finishes, we spend a little time digging into what he read before moving on to the next one.

We start with a story map to break down the characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end. He can flip back through the book as much as he needs to, but I love that it gives him practice organizing the story and retelling what he read in his own words.

It’s simple, low pressure, and such an easy way to add a little more reading comprehension and written narration to his independent reading.

I was literally just moving our salt tray off the homeschool table because we were done with our lesson, but my middle wanted to keep going. I set it on the light board so it wasn’t directly on the floor and accidentally took handwriting practice to the next level lol.

The boys had so much fun taking turns writing and switching through all the different colors!

And credit to @itsmegtucker for inspiring us to add salt tray handwriting practice in the first place! 🤍

Our mornings are full, and honestly, I love it that way. This week alone we had the zoo, tennis, a pottery field trip, speech… and plenty of learning mixed in between.

Most days, we do our actual schoolwork after lunch while my toddler naps. We have structure and we know what needs to get done, but school fits around our life instead of everything fitting around school.

Our 4th first day of homeschool.

Yes, I am the apple plate mom who likes to make things a little extra special. 🍎

Most of our first-day goodies have been collected and saved over the years, with a few new things mixed in. New curriculum, drawing notebooks, colored pencils and pencil holders. We had a fun breakfast, finished it off with our traditional first-day donut 🍩, and this year Dad even got to be home for the festivities.

Year 4 looks like a 3rd grader, a Pre-K/K kiddo, and one very committed chaos coordinator keeping the whole operation interesting. 😂

I know they won’t remember every little detail, but I hope they remember how special these days felt.

Got the notification that our library holds were ready during T-ball practice… conveniently, our mini library is right by the fields AND has a walk-up pickup window.

As much as we love going into the library, sometimes you just want to grab your holds without unloading everyone and making a whole trip out of it.

Books secured and right back to T-ball. ⚾️

Every library needs one of these. 👏🏻
