A NEW JOURNEY THROUGH THE PAST HAS BEGUN. 🏺

Ancient civilizations left behind more than ruins.

They left cities, temples, monuments, inventions, beliefs, art, stories—and traces of the people who built them.

Now, LearnLife Discovery is taking you back into five remarkable civilizations:

🇪🇬 ANCIENT EGYPT
🇬🇷 ANCIENT GREECE
🏛️ ANCIENT ROME
🇨🇳 ANCIENT CHINA
👑 KINGDOM OF BENIN

Five worlds.
Five stories.
Thousands of years of history.

Our first chapter—Ancient Egypt—is already out.

And this is only the beginning.

We'll explore the people who built these worlds, the ideas that shaped them, the mysteries they left behind, and the evidence that allows us to reconstruct their stories thousands of years later.

This isn't just a history lesson.

It's a journey into the worlds that came before us.

Follow @learnlifediscovery and come with us.

SCIENCE JUST FOUND A NEW WILD CAT. 🐆

Meet the tilcayo.

Leopardus tilcayo is a newly described wild cat from Bolivia's Yungas cloud forests — and it is the first new living wild-cat species described by science in more than a century.

But here's the strange part:

People in the region already knew the animal.

Scientists simply thought it was another tiger cat.

Then genetic analysis changed the story.

The tilcayo's lineage separated from other tiger cats roughly 1.4 million years ago.

And this little cat is genuinely little — around 45 centimetres from head to body and roughly 1.3–1.4 kilograms.

Yet we still know remarkably little about it.

Its population.
Its full range.
Its ecology.
Its behaviour in the wild.

A species can be hiding in plain sight.

Sometimes discovery doesn't mean finding something nobody has ever seen.

Sometimes it means finally understanding what you're looking at.

Meet the tilcayo.

Leopardus tilcayo.

Let curiosity be your compass.

EARTH GREW GIANTS. 🌎

Beneath Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert lies the Cave of Crystals at Naica — an underground chamber containing some of the largest natural gypsum crystals ever found.

Some stretch more than 11 metres long.

And they formed nearly 300 metres underground, under extraordinarily stable conditions around 58°C, where mineral-rich water allowed the crystals to grow for hundreds of thousands of years.

But the crystals hold another mystery.

Scientists have reported microbial life associated with tiny fluid inclusions trapped inside some of the crystals — turning an already extraordinary geological environment into a microscopic world of its own. The details of how long those organisms survived, and how they entered the inclusions, remain subjects of scientific investigation.

From crystals longer than a house is tall, to life too small to see with the naked eye...

Earth never stops surprising us.

A JOURNEY THROUGH THE ANCIENT WORLD — COMPLETE. 🌍

From the Nile to the Mediterranean, from Rome to ancient China, and finally to the Kingdom of Benin — this was the first journey through the civilizations that shaped our world.

We began with Ancient Egypt.

We explored a civilization built around the Nile, its gods, its rulers, its knowledge, its monuments and the lives of the people who lived beneath the shadow of the pharaohs.

Then came Ancient Greece — a world of competing city-states, gods, philosophers, theatres, athletes, wars and ideas that would influence civilizations for centuries.

Then Rome.

A republic that became an empire. A military power that built roads, cities and systems across an enormous territory — while ordinary people continued to live, work, worship, trade and raise families beneath the machinery of imperial power.

Then Ancient China.

From the Yellow River and the Shang to the Warring States, Qin unification, the Han dynasty, the Terracotta Army, early writing, philosophy and the networks that connected China with the wider world.

And finally, the Kingdom of Benin.

A powerful Edo kingdom shaped by royal authority, military institutions, trade, religious traditions, extraordinary craftsmanship and a living cultural memory that survived one of the darkest chapters in its history.

Five civilizations.

Five worlds.

Five different ways human beings built societies, understood their world and left traces of themselves behind.

And this is only the beginning.

Thank you for following us through this entire first series. ❤️

Thank you for every slide, every question, every comment and every moment of curiosity.

There are still countless civilizations to explore.

And the next journey is already waiting.

Series II is coming.

Let curiosity be your compass.

ANCIENT CHINA WAS NEVER JUST ONE DYNASTY. 🇨🇳

For thousands of years, societies across what is now China rose, fractured, transformed and rebuilt.

From the Shang dynasty and the mysterious oracle bones...

To the bronze ritual vessels that revealed a world of power, religion and authority.

From the Zhou dynasty and the Warring States period...

To Confucius, Daoist thinkers, Legalists and the extraordinary intellectual world that emerged during centuries of political upheaval.

Then, in 221 BCE, Qin Shihuangdi unified the rival states and created China's first centralized imperial state.

The Qin dynasty standardized writing, weights, measures and currency while expanding roads, canals and administrative systems.

They connected earlier defensive walls.

They built the enormous mausoleum complex guarded by the Terracotta Army.

And under the Han dynasty, China expanded toward Central Asia, developing stronger connections with the wider networks of Eurasian exchange.

Silk travelled.

But so did people.

Ideas.

Technologies.

Beliefs.

Languages.

And cultures.

This is the story of Ancient China — from the Shang dynasty to the Qin and Han, from oracle bones and bronze ritual vessels to the Terracotta Army and the early Silk Road.

Not a single story.

A civilization constantly becoming something new.

This is Ancient China.

And this is only one chapter of human history.

Follow @learnlifediscovery as we continue travelling through the civilizations that came before us.

Ten dinosaurs. Ten very different ways to imagine the Mesozoic. 🦖

Some are instantly recognizable.

Others look almost impossible.

From Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops to Spinosaurus, Velociraptor, Therizinosaurus, Deinocheirus, Psittacosaurus, Carnotaurus and the enormous Patagotitan — these were real animals reconstructed from fossil evidence.

And some were very different from the versions popular culture taught us to imagine.

Velociraptor, for example, was much smaller than its movie counterpart and is now thought to have had a fine feather-like covering.

Spinosaurus lived in ancient North Africa and shows adaptations associated with life around water, although exactly how aquatic it was remains an area of scientific discussion.

And Patagotitan was one of the largest dinosaurs known, although estimates of its exact mass vary because reconstructing the weight of an extinct animal from fossils involves uncertainty.

These weren't monsters from fantasy.

They were fragments of a real world that existed millions of years ago.

Which one would you want to see brought to life next?

MACHU PICCHU: A CITY ABOVE THE CLOUDS. 🏔️

High in the eastern Andes of Peru, the Inca built one of the most remarkable architectural landscapes of the ancient Americas.

Machu Picchu was constructed in the 15th century at about 2,430 metres above sea level, where stone architecture, steep mountains, terraces and cloud forest become part of one extraordinary landscape.

The site contains around 200 structures, including residential, agricultural, religious and ceremonial spaces.

Its engineering is just as remarkable.
Stone terraces helped shape the steep terrain for agriculture, while an extensive system of water channels and other infrastructure supported life within the settlement.

UNESCO describes Machu Picchu as an exceptional achievement of Inca urbanism, architecture and engineering.

And although Machu Picchu became internationally famous after 1911, its exact role and some aspects of its history are still being investigated.

A city built into the mountains.

A civilization that mastered its landscape.

And a place that still leaves us with questions.

THE APEX PREDATOR OF THE LATE CRETACEOUS. 🦖

For roughly 68–66 million years, Tyrannosaurus rex lived in western North America.

It grew to around 12 metres long, carried a massive skull, and had roughly 60 serrated teeth, some reaching about 20 centimetres. Its jaws were powerful enough to crush bone.

But T. rex wasn't simply a giant with teeth.

Its forward-facing eyes, large olfactory bulbs and powerful jaws suggest a predator equipped with an impressive sensory and anatomical arsenal.

It was one of the largest land predators ever known—and the dominant large predator of its Late Cretaceous ecosystem.

Then, about 66 million years ago, its world ended.

The king disappeared.

The fossils remained.

ONE OF THE LARGEST ANIMALS TO EVER WALK ON LAND. 🦕

About 101 million years ago, a giant titanosaur moved through what is now Patagonia.

Its name was Patagotitan mayorum.

At roughly 37.5 metres long and an estimated 57 tonnes, it was one of the largest dinosaurs known to science. Its femur alone measured about 2.38 metres.

And unlike some of the other giant dinosaurs whose remains are extremely fragmentary, Patagotitan is known from a relatively complete collection of fossil bones—giving scientists greater confidence in its estimated size.

Even so, body-mass estimates vary depending on the method used.

It wasn't simply enormous.

It was an entire ecosystem-sized animal, walking on four legs through the Cretaceous world.
