part two of my poem not all men:
Not all men, but almost every woman has her own story.
I’ve had to go through something myself, so I can speak to this, and there are still too many unprocessed reports on file with the police.
People still ask what she was wearing—
a skirt that was too short, a dress that was too tight? It doesn’t really matter in this big city.
People say she just looked too provocative, that it’s her own fault
if a man assaults her,
but we’re tired of it,
and we really don’t have the patience to explain this to you anymore,
because we ask ourselves, how can a pair of pajamas, a burqa, or a diaper be too provocative?
So no, it’s not because of the clothes or the nice smile,
it’s his sick thoughts that falter at the sight of the woman and the girl, so that he begins to pant like a greedy dog,
and wants to take what doesn’t belong to him.
And without hesitation, he takes it, saying it wouldn’t have bothered her anyway.
She didn’t say “no” loudly enough,
didn’t complain loudly enough.
But if she’d argued back, she might have died,
maybe she couldn’t even speak yet or take care of herself.
You think these thoughts are exaggerated; I think humanity is simply corrupt.
Not all men, but almost all women
tell themselves they don’t trust the toxic kind of man.
But faster than she realizes, violence takes hold in the relationship, and faster than she thinks, his hand strikes her—not the wall.
She used to say she’d never put up with something like that, but today she stands there, completely silent and tense.
Unable to speak, she remains silent; she doesn’t even tell her friend but keeps it a secret.
Yet her entire relationship is more pretense than reality.
You think these thoughts are exaggerated, right?
You say, “Don’t
take it all so personally,” but every 12 minutes, a woman somewhere in the world is beaten by her partner or a family member.

I wrote this poem in 2024. It’s for those who feel offended my women talking about how they would choose a bear instead of men. Always.

Translation: Not all men, but almost all women are afraid to walk home alone in the dark because they know they can’t trust anyone anymore. They’ve just sent their friend their live location and are holding their house key between their fingers,because we girls aren’t exactly new to this. We know how to take care of ourselves, or at least that’s what we tell ourselves to calm down, but we know that different rules apply here. For example, we’d rather shout “Fire!” than “Help!” because people are more likely to react that way, and if some stranger doesn’t take “no” for an answer yet again, then we have to improvise. Most of the time it’s “I already have a boyfriend,” because he won’t accept any other reason, since he can’t tell the difference between a friendly rejection and a blow to his ego. We usually get a “you were ugly anyway” in response, but to be honest, we’d rather have that than be kidnapped and taken to a strange place—we’d rather have that than be murdered… You think these thoughts are exaggerated, don’t you? But we wouldn’t have them if things like this hadn’t happened so often.

I don’t have words for the anger I feel. Seven men—Matthew Ingalls, Johnathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gillio Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris, and Scott Kretzschmar—and one night. Zero criminal charges. There is actual proof, like group chats and videos of her screaming, but nothing is enough?
She reported it. She went through at least 12 hearings. And in the end, she was the one who had to leave Cornell University. She left the place she worked so hard to get into—the place that should have been the start of her future. But her life will never be the same after experiencing that, especially if nothing happens to them except being forced to write a damn essay. An essay? A 7-year-old kid who misbehaves in class is told to write an essay about what they did wrong. Not grown men who gang-raped a girl. And let’s not forget the 50 other people in that group chat, plus the administrators who decided an essay was an acceptable punishment.
How is this real? I’m genuinely so disgusted by society because how can this be real? Every time something like this happens, the response is always: ‘What was she wearing?’ or ‘Well, there is no proof.’ Now there is proof. And what is happening? Nothing.
