Here I am again with a slightly nerdy astronomy post. I don't know if you're still interested in the wonders all around these days, but you have to go through it now. 🐢
Half a year after the start of the James Webb Space Telescope, NASA has now published five images.
The galaxies shown were formed more than 13 billion years ago and thus relatively soon after the Big Bang.
Here are four of those five incredible images. 📸

The Southern Ring Nebula - is a planetary nebula composed primarily of a cloud of gas orbiting a dying star. It is about 2,000 light-years from the Sun, nearly half a light-year across, and expanding at a rate of about 15 kilometers per second.

Dubbed "Webb's First Deep Field", the first photo of the new images shows the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723.
The distance to Earth is about 4.6 billion light-years. SMACS 0723 is a patch of sky visible from Earth's southern hemisphere.
The cutout is about the size of a grain of sand held in the hand by someone on the ground. It reveals thousands of galaxies, but only a small part of the Universe is visible in the image. The light you see in one of these little blobs has been on the move for 13 billion years.

The Carina Nebula - one of the largest and brightest emission nebulae in the southern hemisphere sky. It is estimated to be 7600 light years away outside of our solar system. The Carina Nebula is home to numerous giant stars, some of which are larger than our Sun.

Stephan's Quintet - a visual grouping of five galaxies,
about 290 million light-years away and lies in the constellation Pegasus. It became known as the first contiguous group of galaxies ever discovered.

For as long as I can remember, I haven't found anything more fascinating than all the wonders around us that we live in. So, for a change, I'm posting original pictures from the Voyager 1 + 2 mission. Maybe you like it as much as I do.

First picture: Jupiter - taken on Feb. 5, 1979

Second picture: Saturn and two of its moons, Tethys (above) and Dione. Taken on Nov. 3, 1980, from 8 million miles (13 million km) away

Third one: Uranus - At its closet, the spacecraft came within 81,800 kilometers of Uranus' cloudtops on Jan. 24, 1986
.

Fourth pic: Neptune - was taken by Voyager 2 Aug., 1989. The picture shows the "Great Dark Spot" — a storm in Neptune's atmosphere — and the bright, light-blue smudge of clouds that accompanies the storm

Last picture: Pale blue dot - one of the greatest photos I've ever seen.
it's a photograph of planet earth taken on February 14, 1990, by the Voyager 1 from a record distance of about 6 billion kilometers.

They are not dirty or “unpure” animals, as they are so often called.
Pigeons are intelligent, social animals and the situation they live in today is largely a result of humans.
We bred and domesticated them, brought them into our cities and then left many of them to survive on their own.
The food they find on the streets is often poor in nutrients and can make them sick. When it gets cold finding enough proper food becomes even harder.
Don't see pigeons as a pest just because they live on the street.
See a living being that is trying to survive in an environment we created.
They didn't choose this life. They deserve kindness and love, too. 🤍 by @leavethetrain

One of my favorite discoveries ever.

This scene happened during a lost place tour. The building was rundown and completely destroyed and then there was this room. It was completely silent. I was silent. And then the wind came through the broken window and created such a special atmosphere.

The video is old so the quality isn't really there anymore but maybe you can still get a sense of how beautiful it was to capture this moment. by @leavethetrain

The eclipse was breathtaking but somehow the most beautiful part was us. Thousands of people gathered under the same sky, all looking up at the same moment. Strangers, yet connected by the same sense of wonder. All forgetting for a little while who we were and where we came from. The way we can come together because a moment like this means enough to all of us - that feels just as special as the universe itself 🖤 by @leavethetrain
