New episode of Bea’s Book On Jewelry. I have to apologize for not posting regularly. Two reasons for that: 1 since it is always about books I own, it gets harder to find a book that are not similar to the previous book and 2 I’m crazy busy with finding funds for exhibiting my work in Milan, so there’s very little time to read and make reels. (If you want to sponsor me, there is a link-tree link in my bio) Today’s book is: Verzamelaar van dingen Jurriaan van den Berg by Linda Rusconi. ISBN 9789462265271. The book is a search of Linda to find a connection with her father, Jurriaan van den Berg (1943-2016) through his way of collecting (mostly) art jewelry from about 1970- late 2000’s. And through his interactions with the makers. Jurriaan collected people such as Hans Appenzeller, Françoise van den Berg, Gijs Bakker, Emmy van Leersum and many more. The book reads so well, even in this busy time I was able to finish it quickly because it grips you. Linda did all the illustrations herself and they are beautiful. I want to thank Daan, for lending me this book. Mayflies by @mayfliesbook , published by @lecturis , brings together 122 portraits created over seven years at festivals and cultural gatherings across three continents. Photographed inside a temporary studio, the subjects step away from the surrounding chaos and become monumental figures, expressing identities they may wait all year to reveal.

In the interview, Smith explains how the project grew from Amsterdam’s night culture into an international study of creativity and belonging. He discusses building a studio in extreme conditions, approaching strangers without interrupting their experience, and working with designer Stuart Smith to reduce more than 1,000 portraits to the final selection.

The story reveals why Smith’s most important tool was not his camera, but the space he created for people to feel recognised.

En dan sta je opeens naast een Motown legende, het enige nog in leven zijnde originele bandlid van The Temptations: Otis Williams! Drie jaar geleden heb ik Otis geïnterviewd voor deel 1 van “60 jaar Top 40”, vanavond mocht ik hem in Utrecht voor het eerst face to face ontmoeten. Hoewel mijn boek in het Nederlands is geschreven, wilde hij graag een exemplaar ontvangen. Plus een bijgevoegde Engelse vertaling van het hoofdstuk over The Temptations 😉
